Deng and Mozgov are not "salary cap filler" because of how much they are owed the next 3 seasons. They are negative value to any trade. Calderon is who you are thinking of to match salaries.

    Right on.

If Lou + Randle + Clarkson is close to getting it done, add the first. MCW or no.

He is right.... about Buddy being big like Klay.

    With shoes:
Hield is 6'5" 212 with an 8'5" reach.
    Klay is 6'7.25" 206 with a 8'7.5" reach

Actually, no he's wrong about that too.

I would do Randle+Clarkson+(whatever we get for Lou) for Butler so fast it would go back in time and happen before it started.

Right now it would seem the ideal would be the Lakers would trade Lou and Swaggy before the trade deadline and use those assets in conjunction with young talent not named BI/ZU (and seemingly not DAR either) to land a star. My thinking is I see more potential in waiting for this summer to do the latter.

Moving Lou/Swaggy - for the aforementioned 1st and 2nd rounders - frees up PT in the rotation. Which hopefully means the young talent play better and raise their trade value. At the least their stats will be more gaudy. It also likely means more losses - or less chance of winning games anyhow - because losing two of your more productive players in Lou/Swaggy will do that. Hopefully then the end result is the lottery balls that come with a crappy record fall in the Lakers' favor and they keep their top 3 pick.

Then you go into the summer armed with a Top 3 pick, the 1st and 2nd rounders acquired via the Lou/Swaggy trades, higher trade value for Clarkson/Randle (and DAR if it came down to it) if they have a strong 2nd half and more time to make a deal rather than rushing to meet the trade deadline. And fwiw Mozgov and Deng would have 3 years left on their contract rather than 3 and then some, if that means anything at all. Plus teams will have cap space, so matching salaries could be less difficult.

That's a ton of ammo to work with in trying to land a star via trade.

Great post Eddie. Realistically, if the Bulls are smart, would either fleece Boston for their picks or wait until the Summer so they know if the Lakers keep the pick. If the Lakers trade Lou for a 1st rounder, and the Lakers get a top 3 pick, the Lakers can then throw JC, Randle, top 3 and the other 1st rounder and the trade becomes a little more even. That's what I would be thinking if I was the Bulls GM. They aren't in any rush to send out Butler. Butler isn't demanding anything and they aren't winning s***.
