I agree for the most part but I do want to give him some credit. he wasn't ALLLLL bad haha. he did tell mitch to draft Bynum and despite his injuries, I'm not sure we win 2 titles without drew

Especially hiring Magic Johnson back. That was a stroke of genius.

Magic got us Bron or closed the deal anyway if he had any thoughts at all undecided, and thought big with AD to be brought in next and a third star before or after him was the total plan fer it or agin it depending on your view. Aside from that hated what he did to us on the way out.

I've said for years, the apple didn't fall far from the tree with Jeannie. She bleeds purple and gold just like her dad.

Jim Buss? Not the same. He was pretty much of a train wreck. Terrible coaching hires, stabbing Phil in the back, bringing our franchise to new lows. It was horrible and I was angry with him for years so I don't like looking back on it. Jeannie has righted the ship and redeemed the franchise as I always felt she would.

It was. He got us LeBron and set in motion everything that has happened since then.

Yeah, concentrating on the negative aspects of Magic when he did so many positive things is kind of strange. I agree with the comment about him being a bit of a wreck on the way out. He was. But, I am not going to negate the vision he had for this team. Rob is simply completing what Magic started and set in motion. Not that he isn't good at it and not that he didn't have the same vision. Magic was one of the main instigators that got us away from the Jimmy era and that is one of the best things he has ever done. He brought Lebron and he set us up to get AD. Throw in the 5 rings he won as a player on this team and he gets a total pass for messing up on his way out. He is not a perfect person, so what, get over it. Nobody is!!! His impact on this organization has been HUGE, without it, we are not in this position now.

    Can’t a guy have a little fun?

Magic is perfect in the ambassador role, but he should not of been expected to play the role he was put in very well. It’s not who he is.

Agreed and unfortunately he had to try it to find out. On the other hand, I think that Jimmy had screwed the team up so badly that he and Jeannie were desperate to try something else.

Magic was part of a change that was needed, but it was very disappointing how the whole ending of his tenure went down. Respect level dropped a few notches. "Tragic Johnson" was back in action, and desperately needing to be loved by the masses.

Overall we went from crap to contender pretty quick, and he was absolutely a major part of that process. By the way, Magic is the greatest winner of all time. Did you know he averaged over 60 wins a year during his career? Amazing. His career being cut short was an absolute tragedy for Laker fans. Showtime may never be duplicated. He was truly a once in a lifetime talent and leader.

Yep, on the other hand, I have watched a number of old Showtime games during this covid period. I have come to the conclusion that this current team might even be better. In fact, I have also been watching lots of other non-Laker games from earlier eras and I am really thinking the league is in a very good place right now. There are 3 or 4 teams today that could be some of the best that have ever played.

Keep in mind, I have been watching since 1960. This is a very good team. The are very athletic and very smart. I think when all is said and done, this is going to be a top 3 Laker team of all time. You will see, you doubt everything.

    wow, that's high praise

I don't feel like I have been able to buy in quite like that. Feels like we are still putting things together, so this feels premature.

Here's to hoping you are right.

Anyone know if NBA TV is on basic tier of DirecTV that gets SSN? Or has SSN committed to showing everything up until the playoffs?
