Goodbye Steve Nash. It's like I never knew you. Pretty sure I'll never think of you as a Laker. Ever.
Agree. So many are sad to see him go. They're better people than me. I admit that. But the entire Nash in LA fiasco pisses me off, from the voided CP3 trade, the hiring of D'Antoni (which was based on Nash being the PG), the injuries, the refusal to retire last year due to money, and this ridiculous injury for looking at a basketball court. Good riddance. Tell DHoward I said hi as I look at the list of great Lakers and know you'll never be on that list.
I really can't consider Nash a Laker either as I am sure many really wont. That being said, I loved the idea of getting Nash because he is one of the few players I put up with Kobe with killer instinct and ice cold blood in the veins. I get all the anger over the last two years but in the end I hate to see it end like this as a Laker. Glad we got J Lin for real now.
I hope your right. The guy got some D but his offense is atrocious. I just see his man cutting off the post/doubling on Randle and Swaggy all day on with the second unit. And God forbid Lin gets hurt. To me having Price as your 2nd string point guard is really pushing it. Fans will be calling for his head by mid-season.
Giving up as much as the Lakers did for nash in his late 30s was a bad decisions from the start. Oh well, all pick ups can't be homeruns.
His offense isn't terrible. Career-wise, it doesn't look promising, but in preseason, he has been decent. Also, I don't see Price running the offense off the bench. That will be Swaggy and Randle. Price and Davis will round out the defense, and Clarkson/Ellington/Henry will battle for backup minutes behind Kobe.
Not sure what's available, but a starting Small Forward would be nice. I don't think I can stomach Wes starting all season long.
More minutes for Clarkson on the second unit. And Lin gets to start. I hope we use the injury exception ( or whatever it's called) to pick up a center. I think we're ok a pg with Lin, Clarkson, Price. It's Hill I'm not liking as the starter at his position.
I think people are too kind to him when rating him as a Laker because he always came off as such a good guy. By the numbers, he's almost as bad a Laker as the worst ever, Brian Grant. In terms of cost /benefit at least.
And just a reminder, I wrote about Brian Grant on Clublakers a few times over the years and below is the argument for why he's the worst Laker ever. It's amazing to think that Nash can challenge this: When you look at the short-term and long-term impact he had on the team, I would argue that Brian Grant was actually the worst Laker of all time: 1) His absurd $15 million/year contract made the lousy Shaq trade possible 2) We paid him $45 million over three years for which he hardly played any basketball 3) When he did play, he was utterly useless 4) We then had to pay him roughly $30 million over two years while he played for ANOTHER TEAM 5) That other team we were paying him $30 million to play for was Phoenix, which knocked us out of the playoffs. Conclusion: We paid a completely useless scrub $45 million over three years to divest us of Shaq and then play for the team that beat us in the playoffs. Worst. Laker. Ever. But now I'm thinking Nash's atrocious cost/benefit stacks up well against this...
We get rid of the last cancer on our roster ... too late and too expensive though . Not only he could have retire last season for medical reasons thus avoiding us paying the luxury tax ( and pushing the repetitive rate back ) but he cost us another 10 M in capspace this summer ...
I don't feel bad for Nash, he's going to get 9 or 10 mil for nothing. He has back issues, he didn't snap his leg in half or rupture an achilles, or get paralyzed in some terrible accident. He hung on too long, the back issues are a result of that and are his own fault. Had he retired this offseason they wouldn't have disappeared, but I doubt they'd have come back to this degree. So again, that's on him, he pushed himself to get that money and he'll get it. He also screwed us out of that 10 mil in cap space and I feel zero sympathy for him. He'll get paid, he's an all time great still, he'll be in the hall of fame, this isn't a sad end to me except for us. But we can finally start to move on now thankfully, instead of another season of this BS. So good riddance, don't care if I sound like a bad fan, I like guy, but not the player with us and how he played things out.
Damn, i was so pumped when we got him and i was hoping we could all see an "old" Nash jelling with Kobe. With that out of the way... can we use him as a coach/mentor for Jeremy/Clarkson? Dude is one of the smartest guys out there (looks like financially as well LOL) so it would be wise to "use" him.
wow. i'm somehow surprised but not really that surprised. that phoenix medical staff just demanded a massive pay raise
I cant.hate him...i can see your points, and they are valid...but i allways rooted for him since we got him... "when" he played for us he was very solid player...it must be i was dreamer, when i was looking at him i was looking at kobe generation,i couldnt go against nash...even if knew after one year that trade was mistake...at leaste he got injured at beging and is ruled out,so we can close this problem for good and maybe look for some help at the pg position...
Well, we knew Grant was a pretty bad contract, he was done. We actually only had him one year then amnestied him. It was a business move to facilitate the Shaq move because we weren't getting another superstar back and Caron/Odom/Grant was the best we could do. So our cap was only strapped for one year, the other 30 mil came out of the Buss's profits. Sucked for them, yes. Worst Laker ever? Grant and Nash are good guys, I wouldn't hit them with that tag. Smush Parker, Isaiah Rider, Brian Cook, so many names I'd put there before Grant or Nash. Don't get me wrong, bad contracts and injured, worthless players drive me nuts as anyone. But not as much as no-talent or worse, no-talent agitators. Oh btw, turns out B Scott was at fault for Nash's re-injury as seen here when he carelessly touched Nash in the back.
bummer. I was hoping to get 20mpg out of him for a significant portion of the season. I don't think lin/price is a credible nba pg rotation, and I don't think Clarkson's a pg. shades of last year...wonder how the lakers feel about cutting marshall now. as for worst trade/laker ever...I don't know. hindsight is 20/20. I thought the nash trade was a coup; maybe bigger than the howard trade, simply because the lakers didn't lose any on-court assets and nash was still a very good pg at the time. if he even gave them 1.5 seasons, it still would have been good. the only pick that hurts is this year's, which looks to be about the 6th pick in the draft. that's going to hurt pretty badly. but again, if nash isn't hurt immediately, lots of things would probably be different, and I'm guessing the lakers aren't in the hell they're in right now. just absolutely terrible luck with both the nash and Dwight situation, on the heels of probably the second worst nba event I've witnessed (the cp veto, only surpassed in utter crapitude by the 2006 finals). really hoping to catch a break. maybe winning the lotto this summer, or at least not having to convey that pick to phx.
As much as Steve Nash has been a fail acquisition for the Lakers, I still consider Kwame Brown (or as Stephen A. Smith says it, KWWWAAAAAAAMMMEEEEEE Brown) as the worst Lakers player that I have ever seen.
