Annabelle was okay - in the Conjuring universe. I didn't mind it, but I wasn't blown away. Some new scares. Watched a few foreign films I've enjoyed: 13 Assassins - by Miike Ida - Polish film 13 Assassins was much more action packed and it was probably better, but Ida was very well done (girl who's about to take her vows to become a Nun travels to meet her only living relative, finds out about her family).
Just saw Birdman and loved it. Great look into Keaton and an awesome job by Norton too. Emma Stone is great as well. Not to mention it's extremely well produced and unique.

Watched 3 movies over the weekend.... Fury - I really enjoyed this movie. All 5 main characters (Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Pena and Jon Bernthal) made for a pretty entertaining group. Easily the best movie of the 3. Lucy - Good flick. I'd recommend watching if you want to be entertained for an hour and a half. The Drop - I didn't like it all. I've seen it rated highly, but I don't know why, the movie was pretty empty and shallow to be honest. Tom Hardy took the movie from awful should have never seen it to I watched it once and never again level.
^^^ Agree 100% with you on all 3. Lucy started off pretty good, but got weird near the end. I watched The Loft. Pretty good drama with lots of twists and turns. It's about 5 married guys who share a loft to take their mistresses and one night stands. They find a woman in the bed, murdered. Only the 5 of them have a key to get inside. It'll keep you guessing who did it. Also saw Project Almanac -- which is basically a remake of Frequency. Rent it.
Lucy is good if you don't stop to analyze it in any scientific or logical fashion. Just take it for what it is, an entertaining movie. American Sniper, while good, is a big over-rated.
I have to agree with you about American Sniper. In no way shape or form am I taking anything away from the soldiers that serve this country or the things Chris Kyle did. But the movie, more specifically the trailers, showed a little too much and hyped it up. Examples: Normally that scene where Chris has the boy in his cross-hairs would be heart pounding, but I had already seen that a dozen or so times in trailers before.
That's why I rarely watch trailers now. Each movie comes out with at least 5 trailers months before the movie premiers and essentially show everything already.
I watched Interstellar and Birdman recently. I have to say I like them both a lot. I love movies that make you think about time and space outside of how we perceive it and Interstellar does that very well. I loved Birdman for its cinematography. Nearly the entire film is one continuous shot. It's freaking beautiful. I thought Michael Keaton did incredibly well in that film too.
Birdman did such a seamless job of editing transitions that it's REALLY unique look at a movie. It's pretty awesome and interesting.
The Judge was quite good. RDJ and RD were both very good. Good supporting cast, too. I can relate to a lot of the themes in the film, so some of it hit close to home (I don't go back to my home town, I have all brothers and no sisters, we were raised in a similar way, and I don't have much contact with my father any longer).
First, I'm sorry to hear about your relationship with your dad. Me and my dad get along (never had an argument), but we are such different people that we have almost nothing in common. I wasn't raised by him and our relationship is basically a 5 - 10 minute phone conversation every other month. As for the movie, I agree. I enjoyed it. Not perfect, but RDJ and RD are such great actors and like you said, the supporting cast were strong too.
So I watched the first 20 mins of Birdman then just got super bored and turned it off. Didn't appeal to me at all.
Same, although the girl I was with just hated it, so it probably made it harder for me to get into it. I'll try Birdman again sometime
Birdman certainly isn't for everyone. It's one of the strangest movies I've watch in awhile, so I get why the reaction to it is so split. I think it'll rack up best director, best actor, and best cinematography and rightfully so. The way that it was shot was incredible and set the bar on degree of difficulty. Acting had to be on point to make those long takes work, otherwise they have to start the scene over. Most of the cast rose to the occasion. I thought Stone and Norton were also very good in it. Keaton should take home the trophy though -- he played three characters in the movie and killed it.
I watched the movie John Wick last night. I loved the first half of the movie, just some awesome, epic scenes, but the ending was pretty bad. I'm glad I saw it but I don't think I'll look to buy it. For those who have seen it this was by far my favorite scene. So cool.... "Its not what you did son that anger me so, its who you did it to"
^ it was my favorite action movie from last year. The trailer really sold me on it..."people keep asking me if I'm back. Yeah, I'm thinking I'm back!" Didn't mind the end, would've liked a slightly better finale fight, but I was ok with it. Glad they are moving forward with a sequel.
