Thanks @John3:16 and @The Rock for the quick reviews on Unbroken. I'll definitely check it out. And The Rock, if you like History themed movies I highly highly recommend seeing the movie, The Imitation Game. I haven't seen it yet but it's gotten incredible reviews thus far and seems like something you might really enjoy if you like history.
I watched The Gambler today. Do yourself a favor and skip this movie. Wow, it was really bad. Marky Mark mailed that one in. Spoiler: Spoiler He's obviously a heavy gambler, but the risks he takes, such as hitting on 18, make you think his goal is to commit suicide by having the loan sharks kill him. He's also a college adjunct professor and hates the job. The whole time you think he wants to die and just keeps digging deeper and deeper with various loan sharks. Slow, boring, predictable. Everything could've been condensed into 20 minutes. I wouldn't even recommend you wait for it on DVD or HBO. Just skip it.
Saw Equalizer. Wife and both both really pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable it was. Denzel was totally BA. Also saw As Above, So Below. First problem: claiming to be a professor of "symbology" - you'd be a semiotician in all likelihood. Great premise, poor execution.
And the award for best movie of the year goes to............ Whiplash. Just saw it. It never came to a theater near me. Really strange. But a great movie. Please check it out when you get a chance. Especially if you enjoy jazz.
American Sniper - if you haven't seen it, go see it. Great perspective on what many of us will never have to go through. Bradley Cooper was amazing.
American Sniper is an instant classic. A definite must see. On a lighter note, I really enjoyed Wedding Ringer. I went in expecting some funny parts but it was much more than that. The laughs started out quick and lasted the entire movie.
To me, he reached that level with Silver Linings Playbook. I hope he wins best actor this year. He's come a long way since Wedding Crashers.
Just got back from watching American Sniper, it was a great movie. Bradley Cooper did an amazing job.
I'll never look at a nail gun the same way again. The ending confrontation reminded me of every Jet Li climactic fight scene with all that water. Rented "A Walk Among The Tombstones" Saturday. So-so flick though Neeson was good in it. Any Eastwood directed movie usually brings the goods. Looking forward to "American Sniper"... Surprised about "Wedding Ringer" given that Hart is not one of my favorite comedians. More of a Chappell fan myself.
I saw the movie, The Imitation Game, last week. Really great movie that I think everyone should see because 1) Rated great on rotten tomatoes 2) the history of the film and that its based on the true story. Watched American Sniper on Saturday and enjoyed that as well. Sort of depressing because I knew how it ended and Chris Kyle really seemed like he had gotten his life back together since coming home. The movie also stood out to me because unlike in many other war type films you dont get to truly see the pain, anxiety, and even depression that the families back home have to go through. American Sniper gives you that taste of all the sacrifices that families go through. Everyone has a story....
I watched The Big Lebowski for the first time (and last). I understand it's unlike other movies and the dialog is unique, but seriously, what a pile of dog poop. Yes, I said poop. LOL I can't believe it's in IMDBs Top 25. I was really bored and just wanted it to end. Anyone a fan of this movie? I assume most are, because it's rated so high. I guess I should ask, is anyone else in agreement that it was a complete waste of time? NOTE: I enjoyed Fargo, but I wouldn't put it in my top 100 or anything like that. Loved True Grit and I felt No Country for Old Men was very overrated and will never understand how it won Best Movie that year.
I also watched Lebowski late and I totally agree with you. It's alright. I get that there's some classic moments, but overall it's completely and utterly overrated. Rewatched Fargo and I liked it still. Top 25? I don't know about that, but I'd definitely recommend it as a movie to check out.
I saw Fargo for the first time a few weeks ago and hated it. Between the accents and the general dialogue I just couldnt stand the movie.
I didn't even know their was a Fargo tv show until yesterday when I was looking up Fargo's IMDB score. The series has a 9.1 Based on the movie and your opinion, I'll skip it.
