I saw the movie The Martian for the 2nd time and I liked it better this time then when I saw it in the theaters. When I saw it the first time I said it was okay, I was glad I saw it but I would never own it. This time I enjoyed it a lot more and wasn't as hard on it. I think it might have been the hype it carried which is why I didn't like it as much the first time, didn't live up to expectations.

A film I strongly recommend you all watch - or watch again - is Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. I think it's vastly underrated.

I saw that in theaters when it first came out.

As I remember it, it was slow, but also very cerebral and really good.

Really happy for Leo. I'm not a big fan of the Revenant. Maybe I went in expecting too much, but it was too slow for me. But Leo has been deserving for a long time.

Leo was definitely long overdue, he's had several better performances in which he was robbed out of the trophy.

Mad Max cleaned up in nearly all the audio/visual categories as expected.

I was a little surprised John Williams didn't win. Star Wars didn't win in a single category they were nominated in.

The big snub to me was best supporting actor. Thought Sly was a well deserving lock for that one.

^^^ I was hoping Sly would win too. Out of all the nominees, I thought the winner had the weakest performance. Bridge of Spies was okay, but his role was limited.

Michael Keaton was lead actor in the last 2 movies to win Best Movie. Quite a comeback for him.

Stallone was absolutely robbed. That was a tremendous, out of nowhere appearance from him of a character that had mostly faded into campy folklore. He was amazing in Creed and deserved to win in a huge way. Then again, I didn't watch Bridge of Spies so...

Good for DiCaprio. One of the hardest working actors out there and insanely dedicated. I thought he was brilliant in Revenant but I thought he was better in other movies like Wolf of Wall Street actually. It was cool seeing his fellow actors appreciate him after the years he's put in. One of Hollywood's best.

I find the Oscars pretty awful though. For the most part it's a 3 hour long commercial for movies that 100 stuck up old guys think are good. It's a chance for the wealthy and famous to capitalize on their wealth and fame by convincing us their awards are important.

By the way @John3:16 I loved Revenant. I thought it was just a bit too long and eventually it was kind of silly watching this guy survive all the things he got through, but it was still really good. Kind of a Gladiator meets the Great North.

Oscars: Really happy of course for Leo and he had such a great acceptance speech. The way he closed it was perfect. "Let us not take this planet for granted. I do not take tonight for granted. Thank you so very much." I also loved Louis CK's bit about documentary short film and then announcing the winner as "Mad Max" but as a joke :D

After the Oscars, I finally decided to watch a movie I have been waiting a long time to see but had to see if after last night because it won Best Animated Film, Inside Out.

I really enjoyed that movie a lot and I pray that there is a sequel that eventually comes out even though the direct said there is currently no plans to. The movie and how creative the premise is totally makes it doable. The movie ends as the main character is around 12 years old so the sequal could be teenage years. It just MAKES SENSE to do a sequel.

Oh Inside Out was fantastic. That was easily my favorite animated movie of the year and maybe of the last few years.

I didn't want to see Inside Out because they pissed me off doing Cars 2 and I strongly disliked Brave, but then I did and it made me feel feels. Thought it was brilliant, and even an important film for kids to see especially, it could actually help people, help parents and kids at the same time even.

The Oscars, I was glad to see Mad Max win so much, because I freakin loved that movie. I was rooting hard for Stallone, but I knew he wasn't gonna win, come on now. It's always someone you don't expect that you'll look back on years later and go "who?", or it's the obvious big name or most famous stuffy Shakespeare trained British actor. Rocky himself isn't taking home an Oscar, I couldn't even believe he got the nomination. But I didn't even see bridge of spies, or spotlight, maybe some offer other (I forget already) so I can't comment on those performances.

Also, side note, how bad was that Stacey Dash joke? Like 5 people laughed, 10 people clapped, nobody knew what was happening, I'm not even sure Stacey knew what was happening. Some of the race stuff made me laugh, like the montage with Leslie Jones in Revenant and Tracy Morgan as the Danish Girl, but at a certain point it felt like enough already with the skits (not the actual speeches). Unrelated, I loved the joke about Chris Rock's daughters selling Girl Scout cookies. Seeing Christian Bale share a box of cookies with Matt Damon in the front row was funny. As well as Rock telling Lou Gossett he knows he can't have any.

I am also curious about the Brave dislike. :D

I didn't love it, but I didn't strongly dislike it either.

:D I'm not gonna get in-depth on Brave, it doesn't warrant it like Toy Story 3, or Inside Out, or even Wall-E does. I honestly can't even remember why I disliked it so much, it's been years, sometimes you see a movie and you just go "blech", or maybe to a lesser extent, "bleh". The big story turn in the middle, the way the movie played out from there, almost everything about it hit me wrong. And I'm not going to say it's because it's aimed at girls as a mother-daughter story because that's not the case at all, I love a lot of Disney movies that are probably a little more aimed at girls. I would just put it very low on my Pixar list, it wasn't very memorable, and for me personally it missed in all the wrong places. Off the top of my head, I could only put Cars 2 lower, that was garbage.

I knew Inside Out was going to be good going in just from the Rotten Tomatoes score alone. But it was REAL good. It ended up being my second favorite Pixar movie after A Bug's Life. For whatever reason, I really like that movie.

Interesting. Hey first impressions are lasting ones. Brave to me definitely doesn't stand out. I'd say it's one of the most forgettable Pixar movies, but I didn't dislike it or anything. If the wife wanted to watch it, I'd say sure.

Inside Out is fantastic and I think it's one of those movies that needs to be watched a few times to really understand how clever it was. It goes into some truly great detail on the human mind while also being completely relatable, funny, and entertaining. It's fantastic. I think it's absolutely top-shelf Pixar on par with Wall-E, Toy Story, and Up. I think it's better than the Toy Story sequels, Monsters Inc, Cars, etc.

I'd put Brave maybe last... but there's some great movies out there. As for Bug's Life, I think it's solid. It's in probably the 2nd tier of Pixar movies with Ratatouille and The Incredibles, but those are both good movies that I enjoy.

The kids I work with got a lot from Inside Out. A few have told me they know why they act out in anger when hurt, embarrassed, frustrated, etc from watching the movie.

My faves are Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, and Toy Story franchise (3 being the best).

Saw it...liked it. I thought it was well paced. The disco references were hilarious with the ending track on the credits so appropriate.

I'm in the minority, but I HATED Wall-e and Up.

The Incredibles, Monsters Inc/Univ, and Toy Story trilogy are my top shelf.
Brave and Inside Out are both really good.
All the other movies are good, but forgettable.

I can understand Up because sometimes I'm on the fence with that one (too much sad, not enough happy for me).

But Wall-E? Why do you hate Wall-E?

Wall-E seems to be the Pixar movie people either love or hate. Some people don't like the preachy in your face message, some people don't like the lack of dialouge for so long to start. For me Wall-E was brilliant and I loved the main characters being robots, had a Star Wars droids/R2-D2 feel to it, I cared for those characters than I have a lot of humans I was supposed to in tons of other movies.
