I want this so badly and I don't even know why its so badly... Maybe to give me that familiar face on a team with so many new faces....

The best thing for these young guys is having Kobe and Artest as your on court teammate/mentor. Heck even Bass and Hibbert can provide that veteran presence. I'd rather have a vet PG around but if we have to settle for Artest, thats still really good.

    DO IT MITCH!

The new Eurodude is a vet, just not an NBA vet. At least we'll have a vet at every position

We have the European Steve Nash for that. Tongue in cheek comparing him to all time great Nash but not in saying that he and even Williams at times will be that guy. He comes with serious competition at the highest professional levels outside of NBA type of experience. International competition is no joke.

Ah I'm a little behind on my Laker news... If that Brazilian Nash does end up panning out as a vet-Prigioni then thats great! Now is there even room for Ron Ron though...?

If it were me Metta takes Kelly's slot and Sacre is expendable when Upshaw is considered "Fixed" and looking sharp in D League and in shape for the NBA.

I figure the final roster will stand at:

    Russell/Huertas
    Clarkson/Williams/J. Brown
    Bryant/Young/A. Brown
    Randle/Bass/Kelly/Nance Jr.
    Hibbert/Black/Sacre

Basically if we don't cut Sacre, Jabari, Black, or Kelly then no there's no real room for him. I see us letting go of Kelly for Artest though and probably Sacre for Upshaw if the kid works out the way we want him to.

I was reading through Pincus tweets the other day, and I think it's just a formality at this point that he signs...I understand it from the Lakers perspective. They see the development/improvement everyday at the facility, they like the relationship that those two have formed, and they want to speed along the development of Randle. Sounds good too me.

I don't think Metta will have a significant impact on the court; those days are gone. He was awful the year we decided to amnesty him, his lateral quickness his gone, and he's never been a great shooter. Sure, he could play minutes but very little or else we'll be hurt on the court in a big way. He's just a net negative at this point in his career with playing any kind of extended minutes. The main job for him is mentoring/teaching Randle. That's it.

If you're making his net value just on that premise alone, then I think there's certainly others on the team being around him, practicing with, scrimmaging against and playing with him in games that will benefit as well. Let's not go overboard with the limit of what he can potentially bring to the squad this year.

A coaching gig maybe but not a roster spot.

In terms of mentoring Randle, Metta on the court is equally as effective as Metta on the sidelines. However, Metta on the court hurts our team as a whole.

I'll disagree on that one. Is Metta really worse than Anthony Brown? Worse than Swaggy P? I'd start MWP at the three and not worry one bit about it. Now granted, I wouldn't play him more than 25 or so a game. Same for Kobe. But he's better than any other three we have currently.

I'm not limiting it at all. I do want him. However, from a basketball standpoint, Metta has been done for awhile...

That's what I'm referencing as "limiting". Plus who knows, he may even surprise us from time to time with his play on the floor actually contributing.

^The main job for Metta is mentoring/teaching Randle. That's his main job, and from what Pincus said about the Lakers perspective, they view it the same exact way. Metta's main responsibility is helping develop, teach, and mentor one of our main assets in Randle.

OK, whatever. Personally I feel strongly that having him on the squad has positive intangibles beyond solely helping Randle, and on some occasions may help on the floor as well. Nothing to be learned from him from scrimmaging with him and practicing with him and talking with him about the game and about life from Ron's unique point of view (thanking psychologist during his ring celebration speech) from also guys like Nance, Holmes and certainly Upshaw? Would imagine Kobe's state of mind as well from not having to do all the showcasing of that professional, bring it every day attitude all by himself.

Anything else he gives us with our young core is gravy, and I'm sure he will add a lot of value in other areas.

Thank you. I will trust my own observations on this as much as Eric's, no offense certainly to Eric.
