Metta has played in Italy last year, i saw him play numerous times and I can confirm he's got something left in the tank, plus he's always a hard-nosed defender and he can teach a lot of tricks to youngsters.
    Do it Mitch!

Can he still play defense? I don't care about his offense. Mentorship and defense.

If he signs this guarantees Nance/Brown drop down to D-league I'm assuming.

    Russell/Clarkson/Kobe/Randle/Hibbert
    Huertas/Lou/Swaggy/Bass/Black

If this teaches Randle to be a force defensively and play MWP's bully ball style (instead of the too much finesse I saw in Summer League), I'm all for it.

Mr. Pincus also brought out a good point on twitter. Mentorship is a lot different if it's coming from a teammate rather than the coaching staff. This is a good investment for LAL.

He's in our gym daily...with that determination and dedication, give him a contract tonight. That's a culture building mentality. Whenever our rooks come in the gym, they're seeing MWP grinding, getting after it. That is contagious to kids that are already labeled as gym rats.

At this point if he's not signed, I have to say I'll be thoroughly disappointed. He can do more for Randle's growth than anyone we've got and that includes Mr. Bryant.

Need him to continue harassing and giving Pierce s*** now that he's in the west and across the hall. :D

Free agent Metta World Peace has begun to work out daily at the Los Angeles Lakers’ practice facility, inching closer to a return to the franchise on a one-year contract, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

World Peace, 35, started participating in informal workouts with Lakers players this week at the team's facility in El Segundo, Calif., and is expected to continue through the start of Lakers training camp later this month, league sources said. No deal has been agreed upon, but there’s an increasing expectation that will happen this month, league sources said.

World Peace had been in the Lakers' practice facility earlier this summer, too, working against 2014 first-round pick Julius Randle, sources said.

World Peace has been out of the NBA since the New York Knicks waived him during the 2013-14 season. He played last season in China and Italy. Lakers officials are growing in the belief that World Peace, formerly Ron Artest, has evolved into a mature veteran who can impact a young roster with his toughness and resolve, league sources said.

The Lakers are lacking depth at the small forward position.

World Peace played four seasons with the Lakers from 2009-13 and was instrumental in helping them win the 2010 championship. Los Angeles amnestied World Peace after the 2012-13 season.

In 15 NBA seasons, World Peace has averaged 13.8 points and 4.7 rebounds. He had stops with the Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, Lakers and Knicks

As I've said many times, I really, really want this to happen. I'm a huge fan of Ron, and we are really weak at SF. And I don't trust playing Kobe at that position. Most 3's will be bigger and stronger than he is, and I am afraid of playing him out of position at this stage in his career after so many injuries.

What I'd love to see and go ahead and flame me if you will, but I'd love to have a starting lineup of: Clarkson, Kobe, MWP, Randle and Hibbert to start games. Play Kobe and MWP a max of 25-30 minutes a game, always in together. Substitute in Lou Williams/Russell/Young liberally for relief and more uptempo play. At the 4 and 5 you've got Brandon Bass to bring in some vet play and Black for hustle.

That would constitute a nice blend of older and younger players and I think help us to get wins which is so vital this season. I think Russell is just too inexperienced to start and I prefer Kobe to continue at the 2 at this point in his career. Right now start Randle unless he's just too raw. If he doesn't improve from his summer league play then insert Bass instead. Clarkson is more than ready to start and play plenty of minutes for us. He was the best player I saw in summer league hands down.

Bringing Metta back seems like it will help the young guys, also some nostalgia for some fans, at least for me.

Not a lot of downside. I don't see him giving any fans a beatdown at this stage of his career. If a random bow to beard's head is as bad as it gets, I don't see an issue with that. :man10:

I feel the same way with some of the nostalgia. Great way to close out Kobe's career with one of his brothers in arms closing the book with him.

Ron's also been helping out in the Lakers Community too:
