Ron needs to be thinner at 35 years old. I would even say 240 would be good if it's doable from a health stand point. That will help a lot, he still won't have any lateral quickness and will be just a quick hands defender but he will get up and down better and with the smaller squads in the NBA right now he could even play some PF. Good locker room guy these days, he's a 180°of young Artest. Veteran presence around the youth, only needs to play 20 mins or so.

Mostly he'd be a great defensive captain, enforcer and this team needs a gritty attitude this year to do anything. Guys like Kobe, Ron and and Hibbert can instill that culture here. If they leave this team with anything, Byron would love for it to be that. I'd love for us to go into full-on enforcer mode, have the most technical fouls in the league.

He'd be great for our youngsters to have to go up against every day in practice.

Oh man, I haven't even thought about that...that'd make the "rivalry" much more fun.

At first I laughed at this, but you know, I dig it. Hope it happens. Like others said, we need some mean and nasty on this team of youngsters. Could also make for some entertaining basketball at the very least.

Me too. He's not good anymore, but he provides veteran experience. Use him as a defensive coach for our young guys. I'd love to see Ron in the Lakers uniform again.

i guess I'm out of the loop, but I didn't know he was working so much with randle. as others have said, this is good news. artest really made the most of his combination of quickness and strength, which are randle's defining attributes as well. artest forged a career as a 2/3 (which surprised me, as I always thought he was more of a 3/4), so maybe he can help randle figure out how to capitalize on being something of a positional anomaly. though I do think randle is a 4 for most purposes.

anyway, with kobe and young as the only guys on the roster who can even impersonate a sf right now, artest would probably see a fair amount of action. which makes me both sad and happy.

I remember Ireland saying that B. Turner is probably the most well connected reporter in Los Angeles. I tend to believe Ireland.

If Turner is saying no deal is close to happening, then it probably isn't. It doesn't mean it won't happen; I just don't take anything as gospel when it comes to Woj and his reporting on the Lakers.

I'm guessing he put being a heavyweight boxer on hold for now. Probably a solid idea.

I'm wondering if his vertical leap is still under 6".

Lol. No way. Did we start tanking before the season even began?

I gotta say guys I'm on the Metta World Peace bandwagon.

Provided he's not a rotation player and is just here as a tutor of sorts, what's the downside? We send Jonathan Holmes and Larry Nance Jr. to the D-League for most of the season? We were probably doing that anyway. This gives Kobe his warrior buddy back. This gives us a guy who can teach our youngsters what it means to play defense with intensity and passion. Again, provided he's not signing here as our 6th man or something, I honestly don't see a downside. He can give you 5-10 minutes of passionate defense against the new age PFs of the league. I strongly believe that.

If he's coming here to play 15-20 minutes?... Eh then I'm not so interested. But coming here to teach Randle and Anthony Brown and Larry Nance Jr. to play hard defense ALL THE TIME? That's a priceless lesson for these young guys.

    I'm all in!

I'm totally down. But I love Ron, so I'm kind of crazy like that. Seriously though he's better than any SF we've had in ages. That includes the guys we have now (not named Kobe - who I'm frankly a little concerned about playing SF)!

    What could possibly go wrong?

After we sign him, trade for Cousins.

Sorry we missed out on JR Smith.

I love RonRon though, sign him just for the entertainment value ;).
BTW, why the hell do they train at the clipps facility? Didn't we build a new gym this year?

He's still better than Wes Johnson.

Player / Coach this year. Next year full time assistant coach.
