i believe what he said was kobe was NOT his favorite player growing up. anyway, looking forward to seeing what he looks like in summer league. feel like reaves really opened some eyes there last year.
Aside from Doug Christie having one of the weirdest personalities ever, I think this good news? Basketball-wise he was solid. Doug played point in an era when big guards weren't always allowed to. He was a good defender too.
Better hope we address this before he gets good and leaves for Chicago while we're busy picking through the Klutch rolodex
We did the same damn thing with Reaves and it will also be an issue. Why the hell do we not learn from our mistakes?
i didn't see doug at all in max. doug was a good ballhandler/passer and a suspect shooter, max is the opposite. their physical profile is similar, i guess. we can only hope max can d like that. christie was outstanding on defense. in retrospect, a really underrated player, tbh.
To this day I still can't believe that happened. In a preseason game no less. Shaq's Lakers are a team that I wish were around for "basketball-internet", twitter and the like. It would have been bonkers.
it was 2 years, and actually his second year was pretty good. https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/chrisdo01.html it was a full six years before he landed back in sac, which is wild, right? i have no recollection of him in another uniform, but he played 5 years in toronto and put up his best box score stats there before becoming a key cog in sac's only good team ever. we dealt him to the knicks for 2 2nds prior to him going to toronto.
I remember being disappointed of that trade since we traded Sam Perkins for a 1st rounder who became Christie and just gave up on him just like that, but then I saw the replacement rookie dunking over everybody, most exciting team after mediocrity post Showtime.
Even the early years would be incredibly entertaining. Stuff like Jason Kidd for Van Exel rumors, Horry joining the Lakers after choking Danny Ainge in Phoenix. Hell just 1 season prior, Magic's comeback at PF would have broken the internet as well. I remember rushing home from the mall to catch Lakers/Bulls because it was billed as the last time Magic will play MJ. It was in the papers and I remember talking about it in school. Today there'd be podcasts and an 1 hour pregame show on TNT or something.
