I find myself feeling critical towards Hams in game decisions and in implementing game plans. He is clearly NOT the best we have ever had.
When you have a high % high volume shooter like Beasley who is also tall enough and athletic and coordinated enough, what is involved and needed from a team personnel and the COACH obviously to put them in near constant motion as was done with guys like Reggie Miller and Ray Allen? I kind of assumed when he came that something like that might be done here during his minutes. Or is that not compatible with what Ham wants always to run? Which frankly has seemed like a lot of bait and switch from showing up in his interviews with a massive playbook and teasing everyone the first couple weeks of the season with so many plays it kept Cranjis working overtime documenting all the new ones he had seen. In fact it was talked about here and he said the same thing that it was TOO many plays too soon for a new squad. Now there is so often 4 guys once again standing while the ball gets pounded by revolving ISO offense.
Malik Beasley isn't worth revolving an offense around him. He's no Reggie Miller, he is getting good looks, he has to knock them down. Catering to Beasley's needs would be very low on my priority list too. We are winning without that.
Nobody said to revolve the offense around him. He is one of the best shooters in the league. He's NOT having good looks and it's something worth looking at to take the team to a new level. Nobody said to stop doing what we have been doing. But we are not a finished product and adding quality minutes do Beasley can play a role in getting that extra win against Warriors or Sac. The team can still continue what it's working and add new stuff no?
Different teams present different problems. I personally think that both Malik and D'Angelo, will play better against Golden State or Sacramento. Those teams play a more uptempo, freewheeling perimeter offense. You will probably see more actions for both in the next round. Against Memphis, it's irrelevant if he's getting action ran for him, in this series, his gravity is enough as long as his shot is being respected. We shouldn't have the same gameplan or method of attack for everyone we play. 3-1 tells me that our gameplan has been pretty solid thus far.
I'm hoping that Beas breaks out sometime in this series v. Memphis, but if not I don't get Ham's hesitation to use Lonnie. Just give it a try. Beas has given us very little. Lonnie might be better if he gets a shot.
his shooting is reminiscent of Green in the bubble but worse since he doesn't have the intangibles that green provided
I want to be clear I think Lonnie was awful after he came back from injury: totally regressed in terms of decision-making and defense. That being said Beasley has been hot garbage and I honestly don't think his teammates trust him: it's easy to pull clips and show Beasley is open here and there but when every time he touches the ball something bad happens - guess what his teammates arent' going to be looking for him. I thought Troy was a great pickup in the regular season but outside of a few defensive plays he's a been a no-show on offense. So two guys who despite their reps/regular season are being ignored on offense. So it's time to give Lonnie a shot if anything just to change the game plan and he definitely has the ability to change defenses due to his transition ability and puts more pressure on the defense as a whole as he's another level athlete
This next series should be his time to shine. The looks should be there aplenty, he's gotta knock em down. I haven't given up on him just yet, he's going to explode in at least one game.
he can stay on the bench, hoping for him to do something worth while seem futile at this point, Poole will destroy him if he gets any floor time
Would be really nice for Beas to break out, but I’m not holding my breathe. If DLo can put a string of good shooting games together, we won’t need Malik at all.
