Yeah. He was talking a few days ago. Ingram and Randle are the two dudes he brought up. They had to ask him about Russell.
through all this change, it seems like they are still not addressing the #1 problem with this team and that is the complete lack of defensive effort something NEEDS to be done about that or else there won't be any success regardless of who is in charge
That's what makes me think a big move isn't happening. Trading Lou might happen, but I can't imagine we bust a move for one of the youngsters before Magic gets to see them in person. I actually love the idea too. It's going to put the light under these kids: figure it out. Not only is Magic Johnson, a legend, watching you intently, but he's also your new boss and if you get blown out by 40 again he might look to trade your *** out.
Could be worse. He could have been Byron who was seen washing Magic's feet with his tears before the show started.
Organization...the lack of it was the crux of all the problems. No one was consulting anyone. Collective input on decision making can only be a good thing.
I'm no Harry Potter fan, but I'm all for adopting the "He who must not be named" policy for Byron. All those in favor, like this post.
It had to happen. Most of us were just a bit shocked about the timing I think. But it sounds like the Cousins non trade was sort of the last straw. Seems like they are still on board to take those calls about moving Lou and that's great. Let's get that done. I'm on board with everything they are talking about and I think it's a good thing.
This can't be said enough! You will be missed Mitch for the good times and all the things you did do well (trading and drafting). What a monumental day. As Lakers fans we just have brace for what's to come and stick together!
Eh, with the trade deadline over, the threat of trade is gone til the offseason. And even then I doubt most of our players care if they're traded, or care if Magic Johnson is watching them. These kids are 19-24 years old, they don't know Magic. They might have seen film, but these arrogant kids probably don't have much respect for how good he really was, and they clearly don't have pride in being Lakers (looking at you, Russ and Randle).
...is this about Cousins, yes? Jim Buss wanted him and Kupchak didn't for what was being asked? If so, agree a billion time over.
- Magic said he wasn't privy to Jim and Mitch's conversations regarding Cousins. - Magic dodged a question about Pelinka. Says he won't answer those questions in the media. Says he'll pick a GM that has a relationship with teams, players, and coaches (he's said it a lot). - Says Luke is fantastic. Mentions the offensive sets, not the defensive sets. - Magic continues bringing up "wanting to win." I think he's going to really look at the kids and see which of them have the fire and which don't. All of them have exhibited fire at different times, but none of them consistently. - On a timeline to rebuild: Magic says it's hard to say. Non-committal. Hints that Jim and Mitch left him with some crap to wade through.
trading russell would be incredibly stupid out of ingram, russell, and randle i think russ is the one who truly has the potential to become a superstar
I think Randle takes enormous pride, but he's just a haughty idiot. I think they'll care if/when Magic sits them down after a game and asks, "hey you got blown out by 48 points. why are you all f***ing smiling?"
This isn't to say Magic will be good or bad but how do people already making it seem Magic will F everything up based on his tweets? This is almost like Sixer fans crying/whinning when Hinkie stepped down and Colangelo became GM, even though Hinkie put that Sixer franchise through record braking losing season and making them the joke of the league people still defended him as GM because he won trades and got them asset. Its no different than Mitch/Jim has done to this team the last 3-4 yrs, yes we have young players who "could" be good but to get them we have had B2B2B franchise setting losing seasons, we're seeing 40pt loses as norm now, how is that acceptable? Going back to my pt with Hinkie/Colangelo, sixer fans expected so much failure with Colangeo but thus far he hasn't done anything stupid or terrible and Sixers team is actually improving as season wears on, while we see our guys continue to look like they dont give an F and 40pts loses are just whatevers to them.
