I think he's a good transition piece - solid defender, veteran, a bit of an iron man, and no threat at all to our young guys.

Not so. At least in terms of metrics.

If its future 1st and not 2017 it would make sense

I mean, Brewer sucks, but he won't stand in any of our players' way of playing time, and a 1st is a 1st, it's nice to have for other potential trades, whether now or on draft day. So, without knowing what other offers we had for player/pick combinations, I'd say this is fine, if not solid.

Brewer is terribad. Now we are up to 40 million in dead weight for next season. FFS.

Your arguments are so compelling it's hard to know how to respond. Crack a book, have a think. The world is a beautiful place.

He'll be expiring next season - like Lou - and we got a pick.

This was about the pick more than Brewer. I'm still pretty whelmed.

Half the point of dumping Lou was to get cap room. If we have a plan to dump Deng yea it's fine, but an expiring means nothing to me when the player is trash. Hell it didn't mean anything with Pau.

41% fg from a guy who can't shoot a lick and mostly dunks, 23% from 3s, def rating of 109.....terrible across the board

I don't care about Brewer one bit, but his contract expires soon and a 1st rounder is a 1st rounder.

don't love it. i'd rather a future pick than this year's, and i'd rather have found an expiring.

hard to believe there wasn't a better possible deal with washington or charlotte, right?

It is hard to believe, they have higher picks and better young players to trade. I'd like to hear what we were offered by them. Still, is anyone here happy for Lou at least, lol? Gets to go to a playoff team from a bottom feeder.

i'm one of the few who will miss lou. i'm guessing the pick won't come close to recovering the value. i suppose an argument can be made that he was an offensive crutch that stagnated the youth (clarkson in particular), but i don't know...if clarkson couldn't outplay him, so be it.

dumping the squad's best vet for a super late first and dead weight...feel like it doesn't send the right message. would have preferred a mitch special wherein a disappointing young player was brought in with a chance to revive his career in la (e.g., ariza). brewer's toast.

To all the folks saying Brewer is expiring next year... expiring contracts aren't valuable like they used to be. He'll be rotting on our bench all next year. No getting even a 2nd round pick for him. At this point, we're just celebrating that he's not a 4-year albatross like Mozgov or Deng.

If we got a mid-1st round pick, then I wouldn't complain about this so much. But to get a very late-1st round pick AND pay $8M to an unproductive Brewer next year... not exactly what we were hoping to get out of our best trade chip.

Some prefer an early second to a late first because the first also gets a guaranteed contract so we have a million on the books minimum no matter what.
