He will be 32 when it's time for his new deal and seeing as how we have a ton of money invested in worthless aging Deng and Mozgov it's smart to get value for him now. He would only be here one more season before he leaves for his last pay day. Need a 1st rounder or top 5 second rounder though. A late round second rounder is not enough IMO.
We have to trade Lou. As fabulous as he's been for us this year, he's not part of the future. Contract is great, he's balling at a high level, and can put teams at or over the top. Might be wishful thinking, but I hope Mitch can flip him and either Moz or Deng for a player or 1st.
So that rules out Cleveland right? Didn't they trade their first for Korver? I really don't want to help the Cavs.
I've been a clear proponent of trading Lou, so I am happy to hear they are in fact shopping him. It just made too much sense not to when you consider his age, his contract and his value. I didn't share any concerns of getting younger or what his loss may mean to the team. It's just simply the right move and frankly Lou deserves a shot at being on a better team. I look forward to what they get in return. Ideal is a 1st round pick attached to either an expiring contract or a decent veteran with a contract similar to that of Lou.
What I like most about Lou and wished our young players picked up from him is that he doesn't go around beating his chest, despite just doing something crazy out there. The silent assassin if you will. But yeah, it'd be dumb not to at least shop him.
He's practically expressionless. He has no gifs because of this. I agree another team could better utilize his talents. Not a long term fit here.
I as going to post I take it all back, we need to keep Lou for the playoff run, but even with Lou going Super Saiyan, we still lost in the end.
really like lou but there's no point in keeping him i just hope they don't settle for less if they deal him. they better get something good in return
There is no point of trading him to add another pick i.e another player who will take years to develop or end up as a bust either. I would trade him for a Liggins type of player though
Based on his age, contract, and the fact that he was playing much better when not combined with Lou off the bench. If separating him from Lou brings back a more valuable Clarkson (Jordan has hinted it's been hard), then it's worth it to trade Lou.
Grizzlies would be a good fit for Lou. they need bench scoring and backcourt players, him and Troy Daniels in there with Z-Bo and old man Vince would improve the bench.
It's called building assets. Those picks are hot commodities for other teams looking to unload certain players.
You wouldn't trade Lou for a 1st round pick - which is a coveted asset across the league - but you would trade him for a player, who albeit is a capable defender, is averaging 3ppg 1.7rpg 1apg and shooting 39.7%?
I would look for young talent and picks for Lou, so we could use those picks and young talent plus our potential top pick and second round pick for a superstar. A team that wants to go full rebuild (possibly bulls, Kings, OKC, pacers, etc) .... I think if we aquire picks and some talent not including our core players we would have the most desirable offer to those teams. But this would only work if we trade our vets for picks and keep our pick.
