Williams should be coming off the bench as a spark with the first unit or to keep the second unit from being run off the floor.
Great game Lou, I just hope this doesn't mean he's any closer to remaining a starter. I think Luke needs to at some point in these last couple games run JC with the starters to see the difference.
I would believe that Walton's reasoning for starting Williams is that he feels he can take the pressure off Russell in scoring along with the others in the starting five. He probably thinks that Clarkson is a better fit with Calderon with his improved off the ball movement and defense. The change isn't really set in stone.
Or at least more minutes doing it that way and not having him start. Loving what I'm seeing from Calderon and Huertas so far. That stroke of Jose's is gorgeous. So those guys can let Lou and Nance and Ingram and Black or Zubac beating them up down low score as well. Don't need JC always there to make that possible. I think we'll see a lot more of JC being played alongside D'Angelo in the coming and final pre-season games. These guys are buds and are probably dying to run together. You know... our Splash Bros Lite. I'm thinking I can see "Lite" with the way Clarkson's gotten stronger, even quicker and now getting after it on defense too.
We have a a problem of most of our guards aren't great defensively. Russell and JC are still learning but they have the speed, size and length. On the other hand you have a tiny SG in Lou and two old PGs in Calderon and Huertas. Luke starting Lou must be to balance the defense while not losing much offensively. If we can package Lou and/or Nick for a Shumpert type by the trade deadline, lets do it.
I wouldn't say huertas is that old he's still relatively fast for his age. I think he actually plays faster than dlo. And his defense maybe isn't the best but I preferred his over Jose's
I agree package Lou and Nick for say a Aaron Aflalo type. A sg that can shoot and play solid defense.
I still think even if Luke starts Lou when the season officially starts it will be JC who finishes the game like Odom did for us so I'm not too worried about that.
I agree he's playing with good quickness and speed both on offense and defense. trodgers had some stats awhile back that showed something about our D in some situations being better when he was in there.
Agree... Walton trusts Williams as a reliable scorer out there with the starting five just so they don't get overwhelmed by more experienced opponents. Didn't Clarkson state that he doesn't mind coming off the bench as long as his minutes aren't affected as much? Even if he does, I still see him closing out games with Russell in the backcourt.
Lou showed us some impressive game last night. Sure, JC should be getting as much time as possible, but it's actually very good to have someone like Lou on our team.
yeah, still prefer him anchoring a second unit as a scorer, though. but i'll trust luke's judgment on these things. i'm sure he sees things we don't. unlike that other guy.
In 2k, the Wolves offered me their 2017 1st round pick and Cole Aldrich just for Lou. I should probably return this glitchy game.
My thoughts, too alam1108, on both accounts. I think that's why Lou's in the starting lineup, because pairing him up defensively with Calderon is a recipe for disaster, and also with you, let's trade Lou and or Nick for a two way SG. Lou would probably be easier to move as he has good value with his contract and his sixth man abilities. Some contender could probably use him off the bench.
he actually came through and hit some big shots and drew some fouls on the opposition like he is so prone to do. solid game for the sweet one.
