I haven't lost a child but I have lost my dad too..and several uncles. And I had to move to Germany when I was 10 and lived 7 years in a refugee camp. And I'm not doing drugs, I'm doing just fine.

Odom has had some tough things to overcome. But human nature is made to overcome those.

There are 8 billion people in the world...and almost everyone (lets be conservative) has lost loved ones too or is fighting all day just to find enough food to survive or has a lethal diseases or is physically handicapped etc. Life is tough. But Odom has all the resources and opportunities to seek help and he doesn't.

There is no excuse for this...not anymore. There was at the beginning but coming out of the brothel, all credit is gone. Its solely on him now.

Let's not invest our emotions on Odom guys. Lost cause, might as well let him go.

But everyone reacts to things differently. Some people are more sensitive than others. Some people just take things harder than others and there is nothing they can do to change that. it's just the way they were born. I myself am a little cold. When something happens to me that's horrible I react by pushing it to the back of my mind and ignoring it (I know that's not healthy, Punk-101 ;)), but other people wear their heart on their sleeve. I'm just saying the dude has been through a ton. Sounds like you have too and there are other people like you who have been through a lot and came out the other side. That's great. But things happen in between those moments that can make or break you too. There might have been someone who said the right things to you at the right time that you may not even really notice or realize, but had the wrong thing been said to you at the wrong time, it could have changed everything.

I completely agree. I won't get into details, but I grew up in a difficult household as well. I came out just fine. My sister, to this day, suffers from severe symptoms of bipolar disorder.

It's true that trauma can affect people differently, but it's not really about genetics or how we're born. It's more about the nuances of what happened, when it happened, with whom it happened, and what supports were present after it happened.

Earlier trauma, even in utero, has a stronger imprint on the developing nervous system than trauma taking place later in childhood.

Not all traumas carry the same weight. Trauma inflicted by an attachment figure is exponentially worse than other traumas. If a person suffers a horrible trauma but has amazing supportive relationships his resiliency will be much greater than a person suffering a moderate trauma with little support.

Also, sadly, childhood sexual abuse is grossly underreported. I've met many people suffering from addiction, anxiety, depression, bipolar that came from good homes but had hidden sexual abuse.

Regarding odom, from birth his father was a heroin addict. One can imagine the speculative horrors. Drug dealers and dope heads around the family, violence, crime, etc.

Hell no to having him on the payroll. It's bad enough Arenas and Swaggy are around the kids.

I feel bad for LO with all he's been through, but he's not long for this world. He can't or won't change. Honestly I don't think he cares either way.

...last night watched the 30 For 30 documentary on Strawberry and Gooden. Two individuals with the same troubles with addictions. Strawberry seems to have righted himself while Gooden still struggles with his but both have stayed out of trouble. No reason Odom can't do the same.

I'm actually encouraged. He had the foresight that his child's birthday could trigger a relapse and is seeking help.

As with anyone battling addiction and/or mental health, I hope he finds the help he needs.

Wish him all the best, the encouraging thing about this time is it was him checking in, voluntarily. Nobody dragged him, he's not in denial if he checked himself in, there's still hope.

Odom was a great help defender, whereas Metta was a great individual defender. Odom can probably also teach something about body positioning and rebounding. We have guys who play similarly to Odom in many respects, notably Randle and Ingram. They have a lot of aspects of their game resembling Odom's.
