Everyone point and laugh at the Clippers. I suppose Balmer will spend, but not on a perennial loser, and not 110 million in luxury tax for Gordon.

can't they re-sign him at a lower number that still doesn't dip into an exception? they could end up with him on slightly over the minimum. bird rights rule; it's why you don't recycle your team via FA every year and why i'm very much in favor of us just bringing back as much of the band as we can.

edit: or do they lose bird rights because he was waived instead of a team option being exercised. need to check the rules again, but yeah, they may have just wasted all that.

on the other hand, one could argue they paid a 1st to dump kennard.

I know that for Beasley we can sign him cheaper at pretty much any amount. While for Bamba is not that easy. So TO and unguaranteed salary have different rules when not picked. So they probably can re-sign Gordon for cheap.

i think it has to do with whether you have to waive the player or simply not pick up the option. if you waive, then you lose rights. if you decline the option, you retain them. so if we don't re-up bamba, he's gone. and eric gordon's gone, as he can't come back to the clips after clearing waivers for a year, i think.

note that we've been tied to gordon for a couple years now and he has a history with rob.

Ah yeah, if it's waived it's like that.

Yeah I was going to write the post before that he could end up here, but I don't see it happening for anything more than the min.

I'm lowkey fascinated to see what the Clippers are going to do. Lowe has mentioned on like 4 straight podcasts now that the extension talks with Kawhi and PG are the most underdiscussed subplot of the offseason. I would not be shocked if one of those two guys is not on the Clippers to start next season. Woj floated the idea of a Harden opt-in and trade, I could totally see a PG for Harden swap. I think that actually helps both teams.

gordon's another guy i could see us picking up if we end up going the mle route. say schroder walks, you can pick up gordon, a powell-type big, and maybe one other guy all using mle/bae money.

harden opt-in and trade is an interesting scenario, as he'd be eligible for an extension what would get him back up near his max. be a little surprised that morey would let his boy get away like that, though. when harden was supposedly walking into a max in houston, there maybe wasn't much morey could do, but he can offer more money here.

my god does Harden look just so out of shape.
Surprised he hasn't done the Ozempic route just yet: are these weight loss drugs legal under the CBA?

You guys can make fun of the Clips all you want, but Russ is putting in work right now, he looks incredible! They are going to be a force next season:

Clippers forward Amir Coffey was arrested in L.A. on Sunday morning ... after cops say they found a loaded gun in his ride during a routine traffic stop.

Law enforcement tells TMZ Sports ... officers pulled over a car that Coffey was a passenger in at around 2:30 AM in Hollywood -- after they say they saw it speeding.

When cops approached the vehicle, they said it smelled like marijuana -- so they searched it, and found a loaded gun.

Cops say Coffey admitted it was his -- and he was then arrested for misdemeanor possession of a firearm. We're told one other person at the scene was cited for weed.
Last offseason, Coffey signed a new 3-year, $11 million contract with the Clippers.

    Oops

It's smart marketing from Steve The Pits Ballmer. He can market every home game as a Bowl Game.
