@therealdeal I agree with you as far as scheduling but i do like the players having to play with their backs against the wall with pressure and short rest.

As long as we don't have an injury this ks a great thing! Lonzo,Kuz will get give or take 50 tonight! Smith on Mavs is held to under 18. Caruso gonna lock him up.

just dropping in for today only to give my review of the one game I saw in person last week: the 1 pt win over the Sixers.

Ball - passing and overall floor vision? the real deal. jump passes, unh unh, stop that. handles? very good. the rest of his game? needs work, a lot of work. for instance, he has no lateral quickness. at all. cannot defend 1 on 1 worth spit. he was getting beat consistently by summer leaguers, wait until he has to defend NBA guards. So it was very smart of Magic and Pelinka to get KCP, him and Ingram will have to cover for Ball. Also as part of that problem, Ball can't get to the basket on quickness alone, that will never happen against NBA defenders. Someone like Kawhi Leonard will shut him down. Like that. So he needs that outside shot to go down, that's the only way he'll ever get enough space to work. He'll have to work his rear end off on his lateral movement and it may still never be that good.

Kuzma - may be the steal of the draft. Have no idea where this guy's ceiling is. Could he be a breakout star? Who knows? But there is definitely a place for him in the NBA. At the minimum, I see a 10 year journeyman career. But playing time this season will be problematic with Randle and Nance Jr in front of him. Could he play SF? Today, no, but maybe down the road if he develops more quickness and defensive smarts. If he develops but Randle doesn't, then he makes Randle expendable. There's a money angle to this: Randle gets the big bucks 2 years sooner than Kuzma. Figure that into the team's planning.

Zubac - man, how much lead is there in his shoes? He is soooo slooowwwwww. Barely able to finish against summer league competition, that was scary bad, what's gonna happen when it's for real this fall? Methinks we've already seen his ceiling, but I'd love to be surprised. He is going to get some run backing up Lopez when Walton isn't going small so we'll see. But I'm no longer optimistic about this guy.

Bryant - Was lost on the floor. A lot. Pass.

Caruso - good that the team signed him, depth is needed, but he needs more development time. 3rd string at best this coming season. maybe can move up to 2nd string in a few years. Can't see him as a starter for anybody. Steve Blake lite is his ceiling, not necessarily a bad thing.

Blue - he struck me as someone who has always been all about himself, but I saw signs that he may be buying into the team thing. That's the Ball effect for you. That said, he's an undersized 2 who isn't much at the 1 so his ceiling is limited. I'd still give him consideration to making the team, he might be worth a try as part of the 2nd unit next to Clarkson.

Wear - nice stroke on his 3's, but otherwise nothing memorable.

Other Lakers who played left too few impressions so no further reviews.

Other sightings: I saw Lavar Ball in the concourse area and was surprised by how short he is. Can't be more than 5-8! I also spotted Mitch Kupchak there too. I don't recall that he caught on with some other team so I think he was there to network with other NBA personnel. I didn't see his name as a candidate for any of the GM openings around the league but who knows...

All I know is what I saw: I saw a guy who looked a heck of a lot like Lavar wearing a black t-shirt emblazoned with the Big Baller logo. Looked so much like Lavar, in fact, that I thought it was him. Now you say Lavar is 6'3" or more so I have to ask, does he have a brother or cousin who looks like him but is under 6'?

Good post, but disagree with the bolded.

I've seen Lonzo get to the basket pretty much whenever he has wanted to and based off what I've seen he's got plenty of quickness to get by his man. Most young players will struggle with a guy like Kawhi who is probably the best defender in the league, but I don't see a lack of quickness really prohibiting Lonzo because he has it.

I'm uncomfortable with all this winning. Is Byron Scott available as an assistant coach?

Lonzo went out with a calf strain? He needs some grit. Byron will hook him up.

Buechler... I like his coaching demeanor. Intense yet encouraging and without the browbeating.

Ball would have gotten another triple double if he didn't get hurt.

He was on pace for a 20/20 game anyway. Could have easily gotten the triple double too.
