@therealdeal even though he likes the Miami market and beach (I'm guessing) I don't think he agrees to anything there unless they clear the deck at the point. That's no better of a situation for him than Phoenix with Chalmers and Cole at the point. They could move one of them in a separate deal for a replacement for Deng, but I'm not sure Miami wants to let both of them go. That's a lot of moves to appease someone who could still bolt this summer.

I'd give them the option of any combo of the following -- Lin, Nash, Kelly, Davis [pick 2]
    Hou's pick, and a couple 2nd rounders (current & a future)
Drop this year's protection to at least top 7 and in return we'll remove any protection from next year's selection.

Doesn't make sense if he more or less is demanding a trade to here (or NY or Miami or Pacers).

Then I ask again, why are we considering him for the max? Are we THAT desperate as a franchise that we will throw max money at a guy who "isn't that much of an impact player"? I have been watching Dragic for years. NOTHING about him says max player. I'd rather continue to be bad a couple more years and stock up on picks. Is Dragic the type of player Durant looks at as the perfect running mate? And Dragic is getting the max. NY would definitely pay it. So then are we just floating the max idea to trick some other team into paying him that? Are we really playing that game? I just see this type of thinking and signings and wonder if we are destined to be the Bucks.

Dragic is not worth it. Yes, the cap is skyrocketing in a couple years, but even at those lofty predictions, you can't have a player of Dragic's caliber taking up a 4th of your cap. The Bucks or Bobcats are the types of teams that blow their money on the slightly above average girl. The Lakers should be doing it on 9s and 10s. Max contracts on players like Dragic are what mediocre teams do to make the playoffs for a few seasons.

Miami trying to clear some room for Dragic? They'd still have to move Deng and then another PG.

I think that because some teams might see LA as being in the driver's seat here, they'll make a move to help them and to spite LA. Wouldn't be surprised if either there's no good offer or a very good offer. Neither thing would surprise me.

I dunno. With all our woes and Kobe on his last year or 2, do other teams still feel the need. Kind of like I doubt there's any current good pro golfers fearing Tiger these days, needing to scheme against him.

You see LA eyeing Dragic, a top 5, and cap space, and you might suddenly worry :)

Update on what the Suns are looking for

Kelly has potential in their system. HOU's 1st + our 2nd is as good as two late 1st round picks when you factor in the financials (2nd rounders aren't guaranteed).

I HIGHLY doubt the max rumor is real. No way Lakers throw that much money at him.

Going for a homerun play is gonna screw us again. In reality, I'd go for Reggie Jackson or IT

This has been my thought process reading through everyone's posts saying we should give up that pick security. I know we would have more CAP space if we get Dragic now instead of during FA, but give me the young player in the draft, plus Dragic.

We as fans have sacrificed enough and this season needs to end with us having a top 5 pick.

So right now it's looking like the Lakers are standing firm and refusing to give up any major assets for Dragic. Good for them! Sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make.

If it's not a great deal for LA then let it pass and focus on keeping the pick.

There are some positives to getting Dragic but there will be better options out there, especially since we can't even say for sure that Dragic will be worth the max deal he will surely want.

Hopefully Mitch and Jim will continue to show patience and restraint.
