Dragic is better. But not $15 million/yr better.

Keep Lin. Pick up wings like Mathews, bigs like Hibbert/Jordan/Monroe, hope for a top 5 pick.

Exactly. It all depends on who we draft...

That's fine guys, but we don't set the prices on the market. I'm not going to hold my breath that we DON'T use that max slot and I'd rather have the player than not have him. Would I rather spend less money? OF COURSE! I just don't think there's any way we're going to get a good player on a cheaper contract.

Who can we get this summer NOT on a max deal that can single-handedly win us a few games next year? Anybody? Is there any single player we can get that can win us a few games and not get the max?

I don't think so. Hand out the max, get your top 5 pick, and roll into the season...

Not to beat a dead horse (with Rondo in the horse role), but check this link out. Hollinger is far from my favorite analyst, but just check this list out with Rondo sitting at #39 below both Lin and Clarkson.

^Agree. We have 22 million or roughly to spend. You could throw a max out there and sign a mid-tier FA

It's sad that our team in such bad shape. It's no longer about choosing a great plan but more about going with the less flawed plan.

Exactly. Not knowing where we are in the draft (or if we have a pick at all if we are being real about the situation) makes it tough to get behind any move right now.

Agree. I am not sold on Dragic, but I could see it. Rondo's health worries me as much as Kobe's.

Just for fun, who ARE the Top 10 PGs in the NBA? I'm not being a jackrabbit, I'm serious. I'm looking down the list right now and here's the guys I'd put undoubtedly ahead of Dragic-

Wall, Westbrook, Paul, Lillard, Curry, Lowry, Conley, and Irving. By my math we're at eight guys. Then we're getting into Lawson, Bledsoe, Teague, Knight, Walker, Rose, Rondo, Reggie Jackson, Jrue Holiday, Jennings, and Michael Carter-Williams.

I'd put Dragic ahead of most of that second list except maybe Teague and the rest are debatable right? Rose obviously is better if he's healthy and pushing hard enough, but that's rare these days. So I'd say Dragic is close to the Top 10, but he makes the Top 15 at his position. The max is still way too much for him, but it might be what we're forced to work with.

I'd go with Wall, Westbrook, Paul, Lillard, Curry, Lowry, Conley, Irving, Rose, and Teague as my Top 10. I can see the arguments for Dragic after Rose though.

    This year I'll go:

    Curry
    Westbrook
    Lillard
    CP3
    Wall
    Lowry
    Conley
    Irving
    Bledsoe
    Teague

I agree that you can slot Dragic anywhere after those ten, and maybe higher depending on the situation. He proved last year that IF he is allowed to be the guy at PG he can crack that top 10. Someone posted above the stat that he is the #1 PG in the league in shooting % of open shots. Next to Kobe he would get a lot of open looks. I still don't want to pay him Max $$$, but you make a strong point that we MAY have to overpay someone to get the rebuild ball rolling.

A counter argument could be made that if you're looking at that list of guards, there's just so many really talented PGs in the NBA right now maybe it's best to look at other positions of need. I believe that's @revgen 's point and it's one I can definitely agree with. If we can find someone more worthy of a max deal that's fine.

If we can sign any of these guys BELOW max I'll be ecstatic, I'm just at this point mentally preparing myself to give up that max slot to a 2nd tier guy.

I would definitely take Dragic over Rondo. I actually think one of the most important things the Lakers need to do in free agency is steer clear of Rondo, which is why Mitch's comments today were so good to hear.
