He's shooting 30.9 FT% for the year. It has to be a mental thing. I'm sure he'll bounce back to his usual 60% next year.

    He's actually shooting higher from 3P% (32.3%) than FT% (30.9%). Lol.

I want my starting C to shoot over 65%-70%, and not hoping that my PG can bounce back to 60%.

dragic and rondo will both get near max offers, imo. and yes, as I said in the other thread, I'd trade Houston's first to get a shot at giving him the 5th year and selling him on the franchise.

I also think some of these leaks are gamesmanship from agents and the front offices. la and Houston are telling each other: if you trade for him, I'm still going after him in FA with a huge offer. interesting to see how it plays out, and if there are any dark horses out there waiting to enter the race.

Do Not trade for him, what for? He could bring more wins and kill the hopes of holding on to that protected lottery pick. If they can sign him next year fine, but he's not a classic PG that racks up assists, and he's heading into his 30's so his production is bound to regress. And certainly not for 20 mil!

I wouldn't trade for him right now. According to Pincus, his feeling is the Lakers aren't going to do anything that makes them any better this year; in other words, TANK ON. Add to the fact, we've come too far to look back in the standings, Mitch is scouting, we have the worst starting 5 in the NBA; it's quite clear what our goals are for the rest of the season.

In saying that, Dragic's game will age nicely, IMO. Doesn't rely on athleticism, average speed, but could rely more on IQ, leadership, shooting, and just very fundamental basketball to continue to be highly effective.

    @TIME is right.

I don't think this rumor started with us though. I think someone is using us as a specter to trade Dragic. I wouldn't put it past Houston to start spreading that rumor to scare Phoenix into trading him.

No one in their right mind is offering Dragic that much.

I always wondered this. How do you know what the max is for certain players? Is there a formula that factors in years of service?

    Look here.

    Max is:
6 or fewer years- either 9 million or 25% of the cap
7 to 9 years- 11 million or 30% of the cap
10+ years- 14 million or 35% of the cap

Like others have said, someone is putting these rumors out there for their own benefit. I don't think anyone will actually give Dragic the max, and definitely not us. A criticism of this front office has been that we're trying to hit home runs and bring in big name players while avoiding the middle-tier signings that we'd need to round out our roster. Dragic is great, but giving him the max would be the worst of both these aspects. We'd be bringing in a middle-tier free agent whose name doesn't bring that much star power ... and giving him max money so we couldn't sign anyone else. I don't see us being that incompetent.

To reiterate, I do really want Dragic though. I'd love to have him at around $10 -$12 million. If we manage to fill in the other pieces (ie draft Okafor, re-sign Davis, Ellington, get another good free agent) and Dragic would be the last piece to push us over the top into a definite playoff team, then I'd consider going up to around $15 million if that's what it took to get him.

I would do Hill+LAC pick for him just to let him know we want him, and to be a little more familiar with the roster-better chance to sign him in the off season(we maybe pick 2 wins with him).
If fe draft a PG than obviously we dont need him, if not, we have a very good chance to keep him with 12-15mil per 4 years.
We all know that ATM Phoenix is not going anywhere with the roster...he knows it too...the only competition we have is Dallas, if Rondo does not work. I doubt it is NYK, but maybe Miami. Who else is on the market for a starting PG?

And I though maxing Dragic was a terrible decision. Brandon Knight what?

There are only 10-15 people in the league right now that are worth max and Dragic or Knight does not max that list.

I get that, what I should have said is nothing about him says "all-star" or "max player". He's really good, but he's a 2nd tier guy, he's not worth $18-$20 million. He's worth Kyle Lowry money, and that is $12 mil.

Actually, the max for Dragic 18.5 based upon where the cap might be next year. My mistake.

    Regarding the Dragic rumors:

    1. Lakers are planning on offering Dragic a max contract this summer: If the news about the players union turning down the cap smoothing plan that the league presented are correct then getting Dragic to take a max deal this summer could be a steal (the max this year will be worth far less than next year's max). That said he isn't a perfect fit as a max contract would take him well past his prime. The Lakers need young players with talent who are on the upswing, not ones who are about to enter their 30's and the downside of their careers. So while a Dragic on a "max" deal this summer could look good in the future so would a number of other free agents that they could target. I would greatly prefer that they spend their money on younger guys like Tobias Harris, DeAndre Jordan, etc.

    2. Lakers will attempt to trade for Dragic at the dealine: This has to be something Phoenix is putting out there to up Dragic's trade value. The only reason for the Lakers to give up assets for a soon-to-be unrestricted free agent is if they were sure that they would be able to keep them, and given what happened with Dwight and Pau they can't take that risk again. The Lakers have very few assets to deal, and giving up any of them just to get a guy they can sign as a free agent a few months later would be incredibly foolish...and that's without mentioning that adding him to the roster now would really mess up the tank.

    Anyway, that's my take.

Dragic is a good player. I'd like to have him on our team, but he's not a max player. Not even close. 10+ yes, but not max.
