I agree with this and this is what I came in to specifically say. Cut Xavier if necessary to add someone of much greater immediate value. Ellington has shown promise of finally getting his swag bag with his hitting the long ball. Which we desperately freaking need. And Price is valuable in my opinion for his athletic hustle and defense. A gritty player. I think with all the great PGs in the league that him having a puncher's chance of at least slowing them down a bit, is more valuable and needed than anything Henry is capable of giving us this year. The injuries have really taken a lot out of him since that great, promising 1st game against the Clippers last year. We gots lots of guys to play back up 2 and even small forward. This Mekel looks interesting. Hopefully he's a little quicker than that one compilation seems to show.

Miller sounds like he was a really intriguing player before his injury. He sounds like a poor man's Durant.

I don't know much about Mekel. In fact, I know zero.

Miller intrigues me. I'd give him a shot if he is impressing during workouts.

good, I like that the Lakers FO is going to make them go head to head. Good competition and the best man might just get a shot on our team.

Mekel is known as the Israeli Steve Nash. Not a terribly athletic game, but constantly in a state of attack. He's very good at being patient with his dribble and has an array of floaters around the basket. His shot is kind of funky looking and I don't know much about it, but he's definitely a solid player. He'd be a steal.

I don't know a whole lot about Miller. If he can hit an outside shot though, let's give him a shot right now.

for me it's all about how happy are we about Price. Mekel will do a better job than him, but, it's better to bring Miller and make Price somehow a better player. he showd flashes in the preseason.

Price is 31 years old and is now what he'll always be: a fairly athletic, defensive minded guy who is at best decent on offense and at worst a liability.

I like Price a lot and if we kept him I wouldn't be upset, but Mekel is the better option for what we need.

I want both Miller and Mekel. X is an obvious choice to drop. I like Price too, but we reaaally need another true PG to run an actual offense. I'd even experiment with starting Mekel and letting Lin have more of a Linsanity role with the 2nd unit where he would not defer to Kobe all the time.

The Lakers will bring their D-League forward, Roscoe Smith of the D-Fenders, into a free agent workout today, league sources tell RealGM.

I did like Roscoe's game in the preseason. I think the knock on Smith is his outside shot from what I remember. Please correct me if I am wrong, though.

Last game for Roscoe and Manny Harris....

    Roscoe - 20/17
    Manny - 43/15/7 on 16/31 shooting

Might not be a bad idea to look from within and call one of them up.

Statistically, Smith was awful in the preseason. Really awful.

    His Efficiency Numbers:
Scoring: 4.21 - no one currently on our roster had lower; only Appling on the preseason roster was worse.

Passing: 1.00 - absolute worst on the preseason roster, and no one currently on our roster posted worse than 1.9 (Wes Johnson).

Hustle: 2.54 - middling number - better than Nash, Lin, Clarkson, Randle, Ellington, Appling, and Brown; worse than everyone else.

WING Rating: 30 - far worse than everyone who made the squad (Johnson at 42 was the lowest)
BIG Rating: 42 - far worse than everyone who made the squad (Johnson at 55)

POINTS PER POSSESSION: 0.86 - only Brown was worse on the preseason roster.

Smith was arguably our worst preseason player.

For whatever reason that's not how I remember him... I thought he played decently in the context of those games.

The question should be asked though: we're having a ton of workouts right now. Are we anticipating some sort of action here? A trade or something? Or are we really just going to cut people to make room? That's not usually our style, is it?

BTW, you should read Rydjorker's scouting report on Smith for a laugh.

yeah it seems really odd...and we had smith here in the preseason and playing for a team that's associated with us. do we really need to work him out/shouldn't we have a clear picture of who he is already?

This is how I see it...we're at the end of November, and we're very limited in flexibility in regards to our roster spots and FA's that are on the market at this time of the year; we have to evaluate our roster, consider what our biggest needs are, who we need to cut, and select from a very select group of FA's as I mention earlier...we need to work out all these guys out and take at look at who could help the most and who has the most upside, IMO.

Quincy has more upside than Roscoe from what I seen from the both of them...I like Roscoe, but Quincy has a more diverse offensive game, has the ability to defend, and is more of what we're looking at this point to fill that SF role. The same goes for Price; he is who he is right now. If you could find another talented PG, that could run the offense better, and be more effective offensively, and not terrible defensively, you have to do it.
