Lakers open to 3-year extension for LeBron James, drafting Bronny:

LeBron James’ name might not be etched into the Hollywood Walk of Fame (yet), but it is embedded in Los Angeles history. And Lakers owner Jeanie Buss wants to see the James name stay, and potentially double, in the City of Angels

The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Sam Amick and Jovan Buha reported early Tuesday morning that Buss and the Lakers want LeBron — who will decide whether to opt into his $51.4 million player option for 2024-25 by June 29 — back. Badly.

The 39-year-old NBA luminary is expected to play up to two more seasons, one source briefed on James’ thinking told The Athletic. But the Lakers are open to discussing any deal that would intrigue him to return for his seventh season in L.A. — after the Lakers’ season ended at the hands of the Denver Nuggets for the second straight year Monday— including the maximum three-year, $164 million extension they can offer, team sources told The Athletic.

Based on last night's reports, I think we'll get the father-son team up, but this is the proper counter release to that from Klutch. Don't want to push the LA narrative publicly too loud at this point. That helps no one.

^^^ double whammy for a true Lakers fan on an island far far away …. that and the loss to the Nuggets again this year in the playoffs. Feeling his pain.

Yeah, if he's signing that long of a deal, it has some catch. It's not for ring hunting for sure, we're stepping behind in the West.
On the Lakers' side, it's a business decision and not a basketball decision to give such a lengthy contract to a 40 year old. And probably worth a max. So the next few years is about Lebron's legacy and making sure he retires as a Lakers and not about contending

Would be absolutely stupid, basketball-wise to give LeBron a three year deal at his age.
However, if it’s for $15 million per, I’m down.

Lebron James is still the best available FA in the NBA this summer. 21 years in, that's amazing

c'mon, that's laughable. He's worth more than that just selling tickets haha

While maybe we don't think he's worth the SuperMax, in reality, the best of the best are always underpaid. Even though it eats up our market cap, he's probably worth whatever he decides to sign for.

giving Lebron a 3 year max deal, would be another move that screams prioritizing money over winning.

Money is extremely important to the elite players. How much do we save if Lebron retired tomorrow? Is that enough cash to actually do anything meaningful with?

Unfortunately, there is no way to separate money making LeBron from the basketball playing LeBron. The Lakers have to resign him for as long as they can to generate funds but resigning him will make it very difficult to win a championship and we will be sentenced to more ugly basketball.

If LeBron really wants that 5th ring maybe he should get off his high horse and not demand Max contract and settle for veteran min salary so the Lakers can build around him .

That some stupid logic man. Maybe the owner, should spend a 20th of the money she's earned, off of the dude in order to build a better roster around him, so that we can win our 18th ring

you can't spend money the cba doesn't allow you to spend.

we're definitely cheap, but some things simply aren't possible.

Stop dumping contracts Abeer. This is what gets you into this situation. Now you have to go acquire other ones, to make up for it. It's not going to be easy as 123, I know that.

Extend Russell for more money, then trade his a**. Hopefully we can find another player, extension eligible after we get them, extend them for more cash too. Thar grows your cap, adding Birds.

Guys get moved every year for the same reasons, the team they play for, don't want to pay them, for whatever reason. Somebody else always will, even if they are looking to shed money, it's the business.

Somewhere, in there, you need to find guys that actually fit, lol..that's why GM's get paid millions too.

I damn sure that Rob had a contingency plan, in case s*** went left again. Well it did.

You act like he has zero options..if that's true, he might need to be fired too.

He occupies a giant portion of the salary cap how the hell can you get any decent help to improve the team. Its a catch 22.

Increase your salary cap with other Bird players. It would also help if your draft picks panned out, along the way.

We have the greatest scouting department in the world. Possibly.

It's more difficult right now though, no doubt about it.

I'm not advocating some Trae Young type of deal either. 2 for 1 works at a lower salary for the right guy. Somebody we have, will have to be sacrificed tho.

A 20M Myles Turner, 20M Clint Capela, That's Rui plus a vet minimum money. Or close enough to D'Angelo alone. I'm not saying it has to be those guys, but it definitely be done.

What the heck are you on about with this now? Were we dumpster diving this year? Did the roster suck? No, the coach was the single biggest problem, with key role players injuries 2nd, IMO. We were deep enough and he did dumb things enough .... that that depth didn't get utilized properly.
