One can only hope that when he's out, we get something and are not left with the scorched earth.

But, in case anyone wondered, it's crap like this that makes me dislike the hell out of him.

yeah, there was no need to throw in "with any group of guys/any franchise". all that is calculated, passive aggressive b*******. if it weren't happening here, i'd be laughing very hard at the fact that his signing the extension is both what sunk us and what sunk his plan to salt the earth here in service of his last ring.

Wow, never in my lifetime did I think I would see two NBA athletes score over 38,000 points! I still remember when my Showtime teammate, the legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, broke the record. It was an honor to be the guy to pass it to him and cement his legacy!

Yeah a great basketball player but he still acts like a 18 year old attention whore while being 37.

In his defense, breaking Kareem’s all time scoring record is a HUGE deal. It’s something I couldn’t see happening. I mean they stopped the game to honor it and had a celebration with the commissioner there. I’ve got to give Lebron props on it. You have to have 20 incredibly productive years in the league to do this as he has. Kareem was the master.

Yeah what do you want him to do? not celebrate? That's a record that will obviously not be broken in our life time and if we're being honest, clearly meant more than last nights game.

i really don't think he cares if he wins another ring at this point considering he signed that extension while knowing this team has no assets for a big trade. unless he's confident in the FO to make a big FA signing but not sure why he would be

with the scoring record broken, playing with bronny is the only thing left on his checklist

An absolutely historic moment and monumental accomplishment. He had the expectations of greatness placed on him when he was a kid, and still exceeded all of them. We will never see this record broken again.

There will be generations of kids that will have the video of that fadeaway stamped in their mind. They’re not going to remember the final score of a February game against OKC (and let’s be clear, Lebron had a great game, it’s not like he’s the reason we lost). But they will always remember seeing Lebron break the record in the purple and gold, associating our franchise to historic greatness. That’s NOT nothing.

The celebration wasn’t an impromptu thing that Lebron did himself due to being a selfish primadonna. That was all planned by the NBA because they rightfully wanted to pause to recognize history (they even had announced under which conditions they would pause the game).

“I still think I can help win a championship with any group of guys for any franchise”. This was in response to a question about if he thinks he still has multiple years left in the tank. In a post game interview when he was probably spent, both physically and mentally. I think his main point was just that he’s confident in his abilities and physical durability enough to feel that he can outplay his current contract. I really don’t think this was the calculated passive aggressive threat to the franchise that a lot of you are making it out to be.

It is legitimately bizarre to me the way so many Laker fans wear their hate for Lebron like a badge of honor

I will never understand why a dislike for a player always has to equate to “hate.” Where does it say in the NBA fandom handbook that “I must love every single player that plays for the Franchise I root for?”

I agree with your post wholeheartedly except for you dismissing his qualifier about "any franchise". There is no other way to interpret that IMO than as an indicator that he is ready and willing to move on to chase another ring. That doesn't make him a bad guy to me. Kobe was at that point and had to be talked off the ledge by the Logo. I just thought the comment didn't fit the night and the moment.

Yeah I don't hate him , I just found the way he cries about the team not being competitive/the indirect shots at the FO hilarious and ironic .

He wanted Westbrook , he had him and if he really was serious about winning , he would have asked the FO to make the Hield/Turner deal in the summer AND not signed an extension ...

He did not , just STFU and play during the season

I was absolutely a hater. But then he joined the Lakers and delivered us a championship. More than that he brought us back to relevance after a very dreary and dark time. And what he has been doing these past years is just unreal in terms of his longevity and continued highest level of play.

Last night was really bizarre, IMO. A tale of two halves (pre-record/post-record). The build up to the record was so fun and exciting, with Staples absolutely lit. And yet, I definitely left the arena feeling pretty bummed. Just a combination of a) this team proving we’re not going anywhere as presently constructed, b) losing a big nationally televised game when we REALLY needed the win, c) AD completely vanishing, d) all the Westbrook, Handy, Ham b*******, e) the lack of a trade, and f) I thought it was really strange that Kareem didn't get a chance to say a few words.

I'm thrilled that the record was broken by a Laker, and I think there is no taking away from how historic an accomplishment this is. But the current state if the Lakers franchise really cast a pall over what should have been a purely celebratory night.
