mcclung = jjb, if he gets it right. if he were able to defend credibly in a closing playoff unit, he wouldn't be on our g-league squad. hell, even caruso was already two-waying at the same stage, right? if mcclung can be a third string pg/sparkplug guy, that's a huge win.

anyway, this is the lebron thread. are there guys who fill toklat's mcclung role that have already proven it and will come for the minimum?

Nunn was the other person starting alongside Reaves over McClung if healthy he was saying and I agree if Mac could contribute between 10-12 off bench he might be more effective than the role Cook played for us. Not a lot of expectations prematurely here. A taller JJ would be great. Especially with Bynum long retired.

Reaves, McClung and Gabriel around AD and Lebron isn’t a playoff team. McClung and Gabriel are G league talent and Reaves is a second year with a lot of development required to be a starting PG.

My post several back had Gabriel as hopefully a rotation player with improvement and McClung end of the bench. Understand that Reaves will need considerable improvement if he’s to start at the 2. But current depth chart he’s maybe it unless the Brick is here and we’re screwed anyway but maybe Nunn moves to the 2. Doubt we’re targeting 2 guards with our needs at the wings and center.

I actually think Reaves isn’t bad at the starting 2 spot. All things considered he can act as a glue guy and do a little bit of everything - I like him a lot. But he’ll struggle quite a bit at the 1.

Why? He has the handles. Has the vision. He won't handle the ball 100% of the time, Chris Paul style.

He is good at making the extra pass and attacking off the dribble at times. That’s a big difference to controlling the ball as much as he would at the 1. Not to get into the trouble with defending at the 1, lots of faster, smaller and craftier PG that will just take advantage of him.

I’m not sure why even want him at the 1? Why not just let him play at the SG spot and let him develop as an all round player.

I agree with you. But him at SG brings a problem with shooting if you play big with LeBron at 3 and AD at 2. Unless we get a PG who's a deadly, but there aren't much available. We need at least a big 3-point threat in the lineup when AD/LeBron are together

That's why I think our 2 position is a lock with Monk/Hield or Rozier, those type of guys. Then Reaves plays more 1 or 3 like Ingles. He's that type of player with less shooting.

Not like Reaves hasn't shown potential and flashes especially with his good form and big balls to shoot around 40% from 3. There probably was a bit of hitting the rookie wall with him as well, hard as he plays and blocks out bigger guys. Legs get tired shots don't drop as much. Just saying don't count him out as being around 40%. Caruso was for us, albeit low volume, and AR looks to be a better shooter.

Nunn is healthy enough to put in McClung's place it should be a playoff team. Reaves can play the one or two. He is much better some are giving him credit for. Obviously we need to round the bench out but we aren't terrible right now. If Lebron and AD are healthy and can't lead us at least to the playoffs we might as well start the rebuild now.

Stan should be ahead of Gabriel who should be able to be decent coming off the bench if he continues to improve.

Considering he was on a beach vacation during most of it and didn't play in one single game, that's crazy. Another example of why we're not getting out of the Bron business anytime soon.

    In other Bron news...

Getting shots up with possible potential future Lakers

LaVar 2.0 in a way. Of course any dad is …. just the vast majority don’t make a spectacle. Agree on the lazy shots starting from belly level.

Have to admit was surprised to see clown LaVar gettin’ over and getting paid probably a nice chunk of change for his gravy training quick cameo at the end of Melo’s prime time commercial last night.
