Lets just assume Jules makes Deng money (18M), Deng gets traded for expirings that come off the books in the summer of '19 and Bron in year 2 of his max deal makes around (38M), then along with Zo, BI, Kuz and Hart the Lakers team salary is around 78M.

Since the cap for the 19/20 season is projected to be at 108M, that gives us a max slot (30M in year 1 of that max contract) for a 7-9 year player (like Kawhi).

Also only SA can offer Kawhi 5 years / 219M (supermax)
Only a team trading for Kawhi and his bird rights can offer a max of 5 years / 188M
Teams that have Kawhi walk into their cap space during the summer of '19 can only offer him up to 4 years / 138M

Some will call me crazy, but I believe LeBron has his heart in LA already. He'll be here and someone else will join. Whether that's George, Kawhi, or even Durant, somebody else will come join him, but I think LeBron is already on his way.

I’ll throw my two cents down since I really haven’t given an opinion on what Lebron is doing I don’t think....

I think he is a lock to come to LA.

    - Most plausible
    - Fresh canvas to work with in terms of roster, salary cap, assets
    - Best fit out of options
    - Been eyeing this team since last SL

Paul George I’m actually 50/50 on if he is coming here. That meeting better be the best thing he’s ever heard. I truly believe he’s going to need to be swayed. I don’t know why because OKC is literally going nowhere and someone needs to make this clear to him.

i actually think lebron is more likely than george, and both are sub 50%.

if lebron comes, i think the lakers will make a trade for a name nobody's talking about right now (ball for wall has been my sort of prop bet). i think stein's right: lebron's not just showing up with nobody, and i think he's also right that george is nowhere close to in the bag.

question is whether the lakers can convince lebron to use HIS leverage AFTER signing. that would be huge, btw. lebron plus our entire team as it is right now (minus IT, obviously, lol) is competitive, and guys will want to join up then.

we're still in the spot where nobody's itching to jump on their own. just need one. i hoped it was george, but i think we missed on that, as i feared this time last year.

As usual, diva Lebron is going to take his time and let the rest of the league wait on him. High maintenance as always.

That’s why I go after Paul George immediately, if not first, then simultaneously to LeBron. Try to get him onboard first. LeBron screwed up free agency big time in 2014 (I can’t remember if he did it 2010 too with the decision or if that was quick), put the whole thing on hold for a while, made Melo drag out his decision for like a week.

Decision I: July 8th is when the moratorium was lifted in 2010 and that is when the ESPN special aired. So he literally made his decision on day 1 when he's officially obligated to do so.
Decision II: July 10th is when the moratorium was lifted in 2014 and Bron announced his decision in a SI letter that was released on July 11th. So he made his decision on day 2 after the moratorium was lifted.

Decision III: July 6th is when the moratorium will be lifted in 2018....

Key dates: June 29th - Bron has to decide if he opts in or out of his final year for trade purposes via the CP3 route

July 16th: 1st day Kawhi can be offered the supermax by the Spurs

There’s “official” and then there’s everyone already knows but can’t sign yet. Lebron keeps the rest of the league waiting on his answer because he loves the attention.

I honestly don't have a problem with Bron waiting and having all the attention to himself. That's the type of thing that makes the greats tick.

Not sure I would want Bron to take the DJ route tho. But then again, we're not Dallas, so maybe that doesn't happen to us.

But since we are LA, that whole tampering thing does apply to us if LA makes trades/personnel decisions based off Bron choosing us, before pen hits paper.

As long as he ends up signing here, take as long as he wants.

I don’t want Lebron. So I could not care less if he takes a month to make his “decision”. My problem is waiting on him and missing out on others, since we are the only team with 2 max slots.

Who we missing out on exactly? Most meaningful movement doesn't occur till the first major domino falls.

Well... we dont have to wait. If LeBron needs time, like you said we have a second max slot, so we can go after someone else while he makes his decision.

If we miss out on someone, like Randle for instance because Lebron is on some ego trip I’m going to be pissed. Just for clarification, I certainly don’t expect to pay Randle the max but if signs an offer sheet and we miss out on him and a second max, I’m actually going to hate Lebron more. I didn’t think that was possible.

I only worry about the Randle element. But as some have outlined Lebron has actually made his decision pretty fast when it comes to the moratorium ending, which is good because if Randle has signed an offer sheet I believe we have 3 days to decide to match the offer once the moratorium period ends.
