We can't sign anyone technically until the 6th so that works for us.

I'm wondering how far we have gotten to try to unload Deng and how much we have offered...goodness that contract. For all the good Mitch has done...f*** man.

Unfortunately, the time to move Deng was before the draft because I think it'd take 2 firsts to get it done.

You could still do 2019 1st and 2021 1st. Hell some teams might prefer it to be so far out since we're looking like a come up team this summer.

Scrubbed his Twitter banner and profile pic of anything that shows Cavs on it. He even has a pic with the Larry O'Brien trophy and only has Rich Paul and members of his Klutch agency...no Cavs players and coaches and definitely no CaVs owners.

Btw thx Bron for turning me into a dude that takes the time to examine another man's Twitter content now. I guess I really am a #Bronsexual. Haha

He's gotten his Bird Rights back with Cleveland. He lost them when he came back to Cleveland via free agency (and not S&T) in 2014.

Bird rights would allow LA to pay him on the back end if he opts out next summer. Or once we trade for him, he's eligible for an extension.

He stands to make more money via trade. All beneficial to him. The only way its beneficial to us is that he becomes an UFA next summer and we can construct his contract accordingly based off the cap we could create for a Kawhi team-up. His caphold would be on the books, but we can use his bird rights towards year 1 salary of his contract to create enough of a max slot for Kawhi and still give him his yearly raises (8 vs 5%) and money he would lose in year 1 of that contract, on the back end. Essentially, LA gains flexibility in creating a contract via Bron's bird rights.

For the Cavs, they get a fat TPE they can either use or not depending on how much luxury tax they want to spend next year. A good option for Gilbert.

100% This! If he chooses to bypass his opt in and become a free agent.

However these stories being floated around could also mean that he's contemplating an opt in & trade by June 29th, bypassing free agency altogether. In that regard, abeerstrodamus and his crystal ball are still in play.

So Real and khmrp's cap explanation was a whole lot more efficient. Serves me right in not seeing their comments before posting mine.

If Deng remains on the books till Sept 1st, that probably means we held onto Jules and only recruited 1 max player or we lost Jules in free agency and 2 max guys came that aren't Bron (for example George and Boogie maxes = min of 61M in cap space necessary vs Bron and George maxes = min of 66M in cap space necessary).

Lakers with Deng on the books are at 39M in team salary and have about 62M in cap space. Let's say we hold onto Jules @15M and get Bron via opt in & trade, then we got roughly 12M in cap space (Kemba trade?)

But the interesting part is that if we wait till Sept to waive Deng, his 18/19 salary of 18M is still on the books, but his 19/20 salary would be stretched over 3 years @ 6.2M (vs 5 years @ 7.4M). Not much of an annual savings, unless we're trying to open up max space for summer 2022 haha.

    Well the article does say
If that is the case you have to imagine the people he wants to talk with are at the very least Magic and Jeanie, hopefully Rob too. But if its just Magic and Jeanie I really like our changes as well.

Will any of those future picks (most likely in the 20s because we'll be contending) be better than getting Randle back and signed to a 4+ year deal. Hell no! You trade whatever future picks you need to try and bring Randle back.

Especially if it gives you more leverage in negotiations. If you clear Deng’s salary now you can pitch to Lebron and George that once they sign, we’re also bringing back Randle who they probably respect.

That or you cleared 11 million or so too if they have another guy in mind who'd settle for that money. Cousins? Maybe DeAndre Jordan takes the discount?

Not saying that's the move I'd make, but maybe they'd rather go that route.

theres a slim chance that those pick turn into anyone close to randle if all things goes according to plan....given our scout team, im fairly confident they can continue to add servicable role players that will exceed their draft positions (2nd rd picks)

First we have the Paul George three part ESPN special documenting his offseason. Now Lebron supposedly making his announcment on Instagram TV while releasing a trailer/doc for Space Jam 2?

Could it be more obvious where they are signing?

Windhorst just said on ESPN that some people in the league think the fact that PG has this doc planned could hint that he's already made his decision for OKC. For some reason, it would require tampering for him to decide LA. Pretty weak argument and I think he's reaching.

    Meaning he's staying with OKC?

Like many have already said if your doing all of this just to say your staying. Nothing says slap in the face to your family and friends back home then doing this whole spectacle to only stay where you're at.

Exactly. Windhorst's take doesn't make much sense. I forgot to mention in my last post, but didn't Chris Paul have an offseason special that aired on ESPN last year? How'd that go for the Clips?

based on how much straw-man reaches windhorst n woj has been doing with their okc n pg returning narrative its pretty easy to see these 2 n espn dont want tonseepg/james in a lal uniform, it as apparent as a 20yr old gold digger marrying a 90yr old millionaire but she keeps telling everyone "hes the love of my life" lol
