Kobe could shoot a sky hook. He just didn't need to often with the larger repertoire of offensive options he had. Not a knock against the Cap, I can't but just saying. Could Kareem do all the technical things that Kobe could do? As well? Kareem has him on career numbers and size and as is stated entire careers at every stop as the best in the game in his time. Lew in HS, College and Kareem in the NBA. Kobe didn't do college. Not a knock on Kobe either.

Kareem is the goat no doubt, LeBron will come close to challenging him. For those who doubt Kareem's greatness, watch some footage of his Milwaukee days. He was Wilt on steroids, a better improved version. Then Kareem won finals MVP at age 37 against the evil empire and their hall of fame front line. Kareem felt they were putting dirt on his name saying he was washed but he proved them wrong. He dominated that 85 finals at age 37. We will never see that again.

I’ve often said Kobe was the most complete offensive player I have ever seen. He could do the Dream Shake! Plus Dirk’s one legged shot. And of course all the Jordan moves. I’ve never seen anyone so adept and he studied all of the greats. A true prodigy.

I agree with most of this post, but Hornacek being just not very good is flat out wrong, he was the perfect addition to Stockton and Malone. I'm also sure he would thrive in today's NBA. Anderson was also pretty good. Now Ostertag is a completely different story...

Maybe it’s to make him actually shoot some of those 3’s he’s practicing.

"Seriously question"? Twitter users don't even check what they write, even if it's only a sentence or two.

Now, Dwight is definitely going to take some threes this year.Marc wasn't taking any from 2008 to 2016. Last year he shot 2.3 and that was considered "stretching the floor". Well, Dwight could easily take 2 a game if his shot is solid.

possibly. i'm just thinking of who's been publicizing training that doesn't suit their game, and howard was top of mind with the threes and the high post face up moves. if we have howard facing up from the high post, the offense has been scrapped entirely.

Nah, they’d be handling stuff like this in house if it was already a concern. He’s prolly talking about someone else, someone not on the Lakers.

Or at least I hope so.

They outlawed the dunk in college to stop him which he turned into the Skyhook. Missed I think a season and a half due to an injury plus Kent Benson. Defenses were allowed to mug him in a confined space near or in the paint. He did not have the luxury of screens being set for him. Underrated as a defensive player too. Agree with @TIME on having different classes of GOATs. Jordan even believes discussing the subject is useless and a disservice to all the other great ones.

Plus, no one (with the possible exception of Bill Russell) ever came into the league as a rookie and dominated the league from day one like Kareem. MJ and Kobe both needed a few seasons to reach their peak. Kareem was great from the first game as a rookie and then got even better.

Yeah i was harsh on Hornacek but he wasn't good on defense so they had to keep moving Russell and Anderson around.
I stick by Anderson wasn't very good: he was below replacement level statiscally in basically every single season of his career. Limited range on his shot really put a crimp in his career

Lebron wasn't as good as Kareem his rookie year but he was only 19 and close to an All star level player right off the bat. He then was an MVP level talent starting in year 2 which is crazy.

Part of the issue with his legacy is he got way too good way too early. Cleveland couldn't get another top 5 pick till he left. In retrospect it would have been better if they tried to tank his first 1-2 years. Honestly his team in Cleveland were just bad: he went to the Finals with Larry Hughes as clearly the second best player on the team <gulp> and then his best regular season team Mo Williams was the second best player on the team <gulp>

LeBron has done things the last few years that make you shake your head and go wow.

LeBron owns the decade of 2010-2020. And Durant is a distant second.

If LeBron plays until he is 40 years old, he will likely be the most accomplished basketball player ever. Kareem holds that record at the moment.

Centers can't ever be the best player ever. They need a perimeter player to get them the ball.

If LeBron won in 2011 and 2014, LeBron would never of had the choking or loser tag as long as he did.

2007, 2015, 2017 and 2018 were all years LeBron had no business winning. Had Kyrie and Love not been injured in 2015, LeBron wins that series. 2007 was the worst finals team ever. East was at its worst ever. 2017 and 2018, Durant ruined the balance in the NBA. No one was beating the 3 greatest shooters ever, in their primes with the DOPY on the team as well.

If this is true, does that mean that only point guards can be the best player ever because everyone else needs PGs to get them the ball? Most of the time Pippen brought the ball up and passed it to Jordan.

Jordan controlled the ball plenty when shots needed to be made.

You grew up watching a different era of basketball where the wing/shooting guard began to emerge as dominant. But centers historically ruled the NBA for decades and were the most important players on their respective teams. Mikan on the Minn Lakers, Russell on Boston, Chamberlain on the Philly, Kareem on the Bucks and Lakers and Hakeem on the Rockets. And of course Shaq on the Lakers.
