Lebron just spoke on the China situation. After acknowledging that he and his teammates were not informed on the HK situation ... he says Morey was misinformed and not thinking of others, or the financial ramifications. Absolutely terrible take considering he’s branded himself as being “more than an athlete” and has had over a week to craft a response.

 

He was trying to walk the line between two competing interests that affect him at the same time. Not exactly the easiest to do.

And the players are spot on. If any player sparked an incident like this they'd be crucified.

No, my negative reaction to Lebron’s comment was based off watching the full video of his remarks in their entirety with all the context. This isn’t a media embellishing things to generate clicks kind of thing.

Clarifying that his comments were about Morey being misinformed about the ramifications of his tweet, rather than the content of his tweet, is a weak take that doesn’t really jive with Lebron’s actual words. Almost seems like his team trying to save face over the inevitable backlash from Americans, while knowing full well that his quote will be seen in China as a glowing endorsement thereby preserving his business interests.

 

No. You specifically mentioned financial ramifications in your earlier comment. He didn't say that.

I don't think what he said was necessarily wrong (the ramifications of tweeting vs. the actual topic), but he worded it poorly.

Got all the people on Reddit saying how he loves China, hates Hong Kong, and calling him a b****.

 

He could've phrased it much better, but his intent here is pretty clear to me and many are picking up on it. He's saying Morey didn't think about the people who were actually in China and would have to directly deal with the fallout of his tweet.

I think that's a fair point.

 

Many of us were even commenting that the NBA should just cancel the games and bring our guys home.

 

So many people could have been harmed, not only financially, but physically.

I’m not embellishing. It is quite clear that he sees the financial consequences as one of the reasons Morey shouldn’t have tweeted that.

The point about physical harm and that they were actually in China is fair. But “financial” still came to his mind first, and his overall quote barely touches on the impact Morey’s statement had on the players in China. If that was his main gripe, it is fair, but his quote was such a terribly worded way of saying that. So poorly worded that like I said, it feels like he’s trying to play both sides and wants his comments to be seen positively in China.

 

Speaking of the media though ... watch how all these journalists who had remained silent will suddenly come out of the woodworks acting like they always supported Morey’s tweet just so they can bash Lebron for his take.

 

Yeah it’s tough because his statement was definitely poorly worded. I think he was trying to say there were issues past financial ones but I get what you are saying here.

I wish he’d have just left it alone.

Here’s the video on it and I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and getting more woke in the topic before making a firm stance...but yeah, his comments were cookie cutter...and I guess it had to be if you stand to lose a fortune.
