Whether or not people believe in his leadership ways, there is no denying that it has proven its results. Some players can handle his criticism and way of playing. Others can't. We have won 5 with kobe being a **** in practice. He brings out the best in people that can handle pressure. We figure out who is mentally tough before we even make it to the playoffs. I love it.
Sorry for the low quality but I recorded the interview from my TV on my phone last night. Kobe on his Leadership Approach in Practices
I think Kobe feels he might of gone a little too far but at the same time knew it needed to be done. I honestly think he isn't as bothered by all the loosing as a "young" Kobe would of been but he is bothered by the lack of effort, energy and desire to win. For all the people that hated Blake in Laker fan land Kobe loved him because he left it on the court. Nick leaves it on the court. Hell Sasha left it on the court. These are guys who get criticized by us fans but loved by Kobe. Like I said, as a fan i don't mind losing but I do mind "tanking" and "quitting." I don't want one single player on our team who doesnt think they should A) be in the game when it matters and B) help us win.
Couldn't agree more with those last couple points man. I might see the reality in the team losing, but I never want to see the TEAM accept that reality. As soon as the players are comfortable with losing, there's no place for them on this team. Every loss should piss them off.
I havent yet watched Kobe's post game comments right after the game on ESPN but I have read the quote and he did seem a little embarrassed by it actually. It was really interesting. Here are some of the quotes:
Freud was big on the Oedipus complex and felt no one could progress until they figured it out in the latency stage. Needless to say, he was strange.
I absolutely adore Kobe this season. he's playing a character I really like. Next season the FO have to, somehow, build for him a team to make a run for his last dance. he deserves it.
I always think Freud most have had a strange mother as well, like Norman Bates' mother strange based on Freudian theories.
I know better what Sophocles had in mind that Freud. Freud did seem a pretty weird dude. Sophocles seemed insightful and clever; less weird. And Antigone and Oedipus at Colonus are masterpieces.
I love the story telling of that era. Oedipus is a masterpiece indeed. Freud was a genius that also happened to be a deviant with a perverted mind.
Well he's not the first basketball player to be soft spoken and non-confrontational. There was a Spanish guy on the Lakers who was like that too.
Not to open a can of worms, but that wouldn't be evidence against the hypothesis that Lin's approach is a product of culture.
He's either non-confrontational and submissive to authority/rank independent of culture or because of it. I'm honestly not sure. Just saying that there's a parallel to that dynamic in many Asian families. I've seen it in families and in other workplace environments, but I'm obviously not a professional athlete, so I'm not sure how it translates to sports.
This is not me trying to start something, it's more just a look at how good Jordan was. I know I bang on Kobe sometimes (based on his recent play, not his career), but this isn't that. This advanced statistical breakdown shows how amazing Kobe was, but also shows that Jordan was significantly statistically better. Once again, NOT TRYING TO START A KOBE vs MJ DEBATE. I just found the breakdown fascinating. http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/michael-jordan-kobe-bryant/ When you look at how incredible Kobe was, and then look at the fact that Jordan was statistically superior in most every facet of the game AND has more rings...I may be starting to change my tune on the GOAT argument. I've always maintained the list was 1. Kareem, 2. Magic, 3. Jordan, but man. I wish Jordan was born like 7 years earlier so we could have seen him play in his prime against Larry and Magic. Unfortunately we only have Jordan beating up on Reggie Miller and John Starks.
I'm a big Kareem guy, but I see Jordan as the GOAT because at his size he completely dominated the league for a 6 year stretch.
I think you are confusing respect and honor for ones parents with being submissive to them. Personally, i'm a second generation immigrant from Taiwan exactly like Lin, I love my parents and do take what they say to heart, but i'm definitely not afraid to disagree with them and tell them that they are plain wrong in ALOT of situations.
Not really... LOL, the frustration finally shows up. I was waiting for Kobe to pull something like this. If Jeremy Lin is already having confidence issues, does Kobe really think it is best to go at him like that? That probably does nothing for Lin but upset his confidence level even more. Sure tough love works at times, but I have seen it not work many more times with people who have confidence issues. damn Kobe is a bad leader yelling at these guys for not playing hard. We all knew these outbursts would happen sooner or later. Kobe is a special kind of competitor, can only take so much frustration. He'll come down to earth again, be calm, but eventually this sort of thing will happen later in the year too.
