^ Kobe being Kobe. He can say all the right things but once on the court... If he had to play in his 60's, he would do the exact same thing
Little talent on the team makes it more difficult but the coaching staff ( and Kobe) should focus more on getting Kobe to operate on his sweet spots to get better looks ... Stop chucking so many threes when you are a below average shooter from this distance for 5 seasons .
That quote is pretty funny. I always assumed Kobe liked taking last second shot clock shots because he holds the ball so long and does so many extra pointless headfakes and stuff before finally shooting, sometimes actually making the position he's in worse and the shot he has to take more difficult. Or he dribbles so much when/if he passes the other player HAS to give it back to him with no time left. I love Kobe, but come on, he does that to himself half the time because guys give him the ball seemingly out of intimidation instead of running actual plays or making the smart play. All that said, I agree with jbiggs a page back, that Kobe is playing this well in his 19th year after those injuries is crazy. He's not human, and we're lucky to get to see his final years.
much like i am sad i didnt get to watch wilt, kareem, magic, bird etc (due to the fact i was not yet born), there will be many in the future who wish that they were alive to see kobe (and begrudgingly lebron too) play. so grateful to have been able to see a majority of his career and appreciate it for all it has been and has continued to be
Completely off the top of my head, with Kobe-fan goggles, breakdown of kobe's career misses: -good shot he normally makes, but just missed: 30% -HE forced a bad shot: 40% -bailout shot: 10% -obviously fouled on the shot, but ref didn't call it: 20%
Like Jordan I'm sure Kobe will wear that badge proudly. It took him 19 years to break that record. Show me the next young star playing on the perimeter who will break that record? NBA players know the struggle it is to even TAKE that many shots let alone make or miss them. ESPN and all the other major news outlets can have as much fun as they want with it. I bet the coverage he gets when he finally passes Jordan isn't half as much as it is passing Havlicek.
I've watched him closely since his rookie year. The thing is, I only really clearly remember 3 missed shots in Kobe's career; the three air balls against Utah in the playoffs his rookie year. But I remember a ton load of amazing made shots.
Alright Kobe go for that scoring title shooting 30%. What a joy it will be watching you this year. Hey f*** it...Just keep doin your thing.
Well he managed to shoot us right outa this game workin twice as hard I guess. Maybe he should try a different tactic of getting other guys to step it up than just chuckin... Nah just keep chuckin Kob.
His low shooting % is a combo of him taking ridiculously difficult shots, Byron being an idiot and letting him burn himself out and the refs giving him zero love when he drives the lane. Oh yeah, having an offense that doesn't revolve around just giving the ball to Kobe every time down the court would help too.
Way too many minutes for Kobe the last two games. Both losses in a big way too. So no reason for it, really.
some people are saying that they wish/had hoped that kobe would play in the post more. i noticed kobe is too weak this season to back down most defenders due to the weight he's shed i guess. he simply can't back people down
(READ VERY SLOW) He needs, more, help, to get, those easier shots. There needs, to be, more, scoring, options. Hopefully, the team, doesnt throw in, the towel, so we can see, how the team, does with Young/Kelly/Ellington, back on the court. Just to see, how the team, looks like then. Re-lax. Please.
That stat tonight that Mike Trudell pointed out about how Kobe is averaging like 26 ppg right now or something like that in his 19th year and the next highest for a 19th year players is 14 ppg is just remarkable. Truly goes to show just how incredible the things Kobe is doing at his age, tenure, and will all the major injuries the last year he has had to overcome.
Kobe is now averaging 27.5 PPG to lead the league... 1.5 more than Steph Curry. Yeah he's shooting a lot but that's still remarkable for a 36 year old in his 19th season. His stats are close to how they were pre-achilles injury.
He's playing too many minutes.. he needs to go out around the 10 min mark of the 1st and come in around the 3:30 to 4 min mark of the 2nd quarter. If he hadn't sat for the last mins of the 4th he would have been right around the 40 min mark of a friggen' back to back. Just begging for a fatigue induced injury again.. Defense wise he's completely whipped come 4th quarter... or sometimes the entire 2nd half. He's steps behind his assignment or doesn't even try at all. He's simply tired.. I think he's grossly misused and too stubborn to change and is trying to video game Kobe this team into wins. It's not happening and his efficiency sucks in the process.. he's not getting to the line enough to make it worth while and the risk is through the roof. He's just begging for an injury this way. It's sad because his physical ability is insane still and it's not at all being used properly by himself or the team/coaching. It's amazing he's doing as well as he is honestly.. they leave nothing to the imagination on offense and he has multiple defenders most of the time. I'm surprised he's not shooting under 30% honestly, anybody else in the league would be or getting shut out completely. It's ridiculous he's able to lead the league in scoring basically going 1 on 1 or 1 on 3 every night without any actual plan or play to help him..
