It's in no way Kobes fault. He's the only one creating any effective offense out there. It's up to Byron, who supposedly worked so much on defense yet our defense is terrible, to compose some sort of offense. We currently have no offense. It's kobe iso. And yes offensively, the most efficient way to score is by layups, 3s, and free throws. We get our scoring too much from midrange and not from those most efficient areas.
Well an inside look on what Kobe had to say from the bench to Dwight ... right on point in a typical Kobe fashion^^^
^ Honestly it's not that bad. The number one problem: helping the helper/offensive boards. Back to Kobe though: What a huge compliment to Lin for Kobe to tell him he wants him to be Derek Fisher. Derek would often take the reins away from Kobe. He'd often wave Kobe off and do his own thing, sometimes to the detriment of the team. He was one of the few guys who has ever done that and it's something Kobe respects deeply. I'm not sure Lin has the personality for that. I hope he does and if the Lakers ever find a way to get another volume scorer like Durant here and Lin wants to stay long term he better figure it out. Cool stuff though. These young guys are going to have to learn to stand up for themselves. Don't let Kobe intimidate you with his demands. He'll respect you more if you do your own thing. As long as it's effective of course.
Everything with Kobe on the court falls into the category of respect. Offensively. If he does not respect or trust anyone to pass to, he's going to take a higher volume of shots. If he knows you're an all star that will contribute (Shaq, Pau, Lamar, Ron), he'll pass to you. You have to earn it. But you can also lose it, a la Pau 2011-2014. RIP 2008-2010 Pau. Defensively. If he's someone he thinks will challenge him, he'll go First Team All Defense on you. If it's just "Player X" from so and so, he'll roam and leave you open.
i actually think kobe's right about the urban legend thing. i think he'd play off the ball (gladly) if they lakers ever had a pg who could do anything. they still don't.
PG? I doesn't even matter what position it is, he wants an all-star there. You don't have to single out Lin who has been one of few bright spots in a dark cloud so far.
During the Houston game, when Lin and Boozer brought the Lakers back with their pick and roll, Kobe took a step back. He even passed it back the Lin and insisted to give it to boozer again. It's all about how the game is going. Lin, Boozer and even Hill can create some offense, they just look so damn stiff and nervous that they are not doing it.
^And you hit big shots in the Playoffs. Ultimately, I think it comes down to just that. Kobe respects winners.
The best part about that clip was the start when Jeremy couldn't get Kobe the ball in the post and forced him to cut up to the top of the key to get the ball with less than ten second left on the shot clock.
