Sorry, maybe I haven't replied specifically to that particular post. But I have stated the reasons numerous times in the other posts, that to me are quite obvious. Chances are beyond "good" he's going to be excellent at some point as a GM, weighing his history, that he like Luke is the recipient of his dad's and the whole last 20-25 years of Lakers basketball experience from the "inside" and being an apprentice, as reported, under Mitch all these years, 16 already real, since 2000 Mitch has been the GM period. When West left.

So you go bringing in a new GM and say, "in 5-10 more years Ryan, after you learn from him this may all be yours." That's your plan. 1 month later a good franchise somewhere see's this would be an excellent time to strike, because the Lakers are freaking idiots a 2nd time with the West family ......and they interview and offer Ryan West a lot of money to be "their" GM. This is totally what would happen. Assuming he wants to be a GM.

Now I could see your plan, if maybe he wanted a different title, duties and big money. But GM is typically the Guy. If you're a competitive dude in a FO. And his Dad is a freaking legend like Kobe in his competitiveness.

Simply do not do anything, whatsoever, nohow, no way that would risk losing Ryan to some other franchise. Hell give him Jeanie's job.

I just don't agree with your timeline or fear for Ryan. We've already almost lost him as an Assistant GM to the Kings and while we gave him a promotion, he still isn't really an Assistant GM here. Sure, we've had him around and we've been grooming him for the spot but he's still not even an Assistant! He has a long way to go and yes that means probably 5 years or so before he's really, really ready to do the job himself. He's only 36 years old I think. He's a relatively young guy for the position you're trying to give him. I don't think there's any other GMs under 45 although I don't have the data to back that up.

He needs more time and I'm not going to sit around letting Jim and Mitch run this ship into the icebergs while we wait for Ryan to be perfect. We've got to move forward. Now Mitch was technically GM before 2000, but he didn't have full GM responsibilities and Jerry was helping him out until 2000 when he gave Mitch the full reins. If you want a set up like that, fine. I can deal with that. The main key to the game is getting Jim out of the bball president position.

The reality though is that Jeanie is going to make these moves regardless of what we think... I'm hoping she doesn't but I really don't see a scenario where she keeps her brother and by extension Mitch around... What I could absolutely see happening is we bring in that Troy guy from OKC (pay him whatever we want) and then name Ryan either Associate GM or Assistant GM right away.

That's all fine and good. Make sure the FO is totally on the same page with him to keep him there and pay him well so that he isn't poached. Don't let him get away. Would be helpful if you would at least agree to that. If not, you're too cavalier about "possibly" losing him in my opinion. The ultimate Lakers son who learned from Yoda of the Lakers himself who's always around for general helpful advice, with the close bond they've reportedly had.

Absolutely Ryan should stay, he's not the problem. The problem we have is we should have his dad as an advisor instead of GSW having him. Look what has happened to GSW since Jerry went over in 2012. Jim thought he and Mitch and the Lakers name would be enough to pitch players. The name ain't the same, and it turns out Mitch's talent doesn't lie in talking to people. Jim has no talent in any area. We can not excel in FA with the FO situated as is. We only get "decent" people because we throw the most money and years at them.

Yup and why my paranoia that the dysfunctional Buss Family could very well repeat this unforgivable history, especially if Jeanie were to bring Phil back over 70 years old to run everything after firing her brother and Mitch as well (that many here seem up for). Now if you were Ryan, and were still receiving honest advice from your dad ..... plus knowing the history of what happened 16-17 years ago that you saw up close and personal, that chased your dad out ..... would you have warm fuzzies about staying on? And we all know Phil to be a pompous, non warm and fuzzy guy. GTFO of my locker room Jerry!!

I've pictured for a few months now that should Jim be fired (most likely), Mitch should be promoted to pres. of basketball ops and Ryan West promoted to GM.

Jim and Jeannie for that matter, should do what their dad did: Stay behind the scenes and let the their basketball heads take care of business. Granted the good ol' Dr. Buss stepped in when it comes to high profile acquisitions, but I think Mitch has enough charisma and clout around the league to be that "closer" (though definitely not in the same vein as The Logo).

Yes. Looks good to me. Ryan stays, Mitch still there to help if needed, Luuke the Star coach / Star recruiter, Phil stays the f*** outta here. Early for Ryan or not because of age, not 20+ years around the Lakers offices / his whole life of learning from Dad..... and Mitch.
