Reasons why we are locking old threads: http://lakersball.com/threads/lb-technical-updates.1092/#post-57573 Link to 2014-2015 Thread: Julius Randle 2014-2015 Thread
To follow off of what @Weezy said in the old thread: I agree that the frustration he shows is so much better than the alternative. He's still striving for greatness and the fact that it's eluding him right now is what's making him upset. That's a lot better than him not caring or him just not being talented at all.
I'll start with the encouraging signs: -he canned a couple jumpers. I've been wondering why he didn't even bother taking them. and I think it opened up some driving lanes for him. -he mixed it up on the drive between spin moves and straight line drives; this helped him get closer to the rim. in previous games, he was having to shove off too much. not playing with as many non-shooters helped, too. -he moved his feet really well on the perimeter switches. less encouraging things: -I had a better off hand as a nine year old. :l there were at least 3-4 plays where he either missed bunnies or forced himself into a bizarrely inappropriate difficult shot because his off hand is so bad that he can't use it for anything. this simply has to be remedied. he has to be able to finish simple plays with his off hand. I'm not asking for kobe-esque off-hand wizardry, just don't play like you're an amputee once you gather. -still really didn't like his body language. when a play didn't go his way, he was very slow to get back into the game. it's ok to be mad at a bad pass, but you can't pout away a possession. that's character stuff. -for such a physically imposing guy, he's not strong on the defensive boards. you should see a body fly on that end on occasion. all in all, much better than the previous two games, but still not where it needs to be if he thinks he's a 25+mpg player this year. bass is going to take his starting spot.
Julius is barely getting in game shape guys! He's in physical shape but not in game shape, once training camp and pre season come around he'll be back to his old improved self
Great game. Finally got some rhythm going. I think he still needs to work on finishing strong around the rim. It's like he goes full steam ahead to the basket and when he finally gets there, he gets confused as to what to do.
Guys, Julius has a pretty good off-hand for a young player. He's gradually pulling out moves from his arsenal, like the jumpshots he showed this game. Once he gets more comfortable in games, he'll start to showcase these right handed layups. And he could drive hard both ways, unlike Lamar.
Who's also a little surprised the "best player in the draft" ..... Russell.....isn't real good with his right hand yet either? But both these guys have all summer to work on their acknowledged weaknesses.
Yeah I was about to comment on that too. In fact, does Clarkson have a strong offhand? Having really paid attention to that part of his game, but Julius seems to be receiving alot of undeserved heat nowadays.
Randle actually has a great off hand while dribbling, he often drives to his right. HIs problem is he can't finish with his right at all. Which, as abeer mentioned, puts him into ackward shots once he gets there. Saw some encouraging signs this game though.
Tonight was the first summer league game I was able to watch and it was great to see Randle rocking it. Nice offensive game tonight from the Beast.
Thats exectly how i imagined him play in summer league. Not free of mistakes, but putting effort, showing his talent and scoring the ball in the basket with different forms. There was one play he looked like Lebron.
Some more evidence of Randle's ability with his right. 2:10 - 2:38 - 3:07 He missed some layups today because 1) he was fouled or 2) it was a tough shot.
