I disagree that Randle moving to SF is anything bad.

    1. We need him to start shooting jumpers anyway to space now for Okafor (and in the short term, Kobe).
    2. He's got the ability to do it, so I'm not certain I see the downside.
    3. He plays SF in name, but that doesn't mean he can't pick and choose his spots like he was doing before his injury.
    4. Trade him? Why are people so desperate to get rid of him? We've got a Young Dynasty developing here. Embrace it.

The only reason to move Randle to the SF spot though is so that you can sign any of the big men in free agency. If we've got a shot at Gasol or Jordan or Aldridge or Love, then sure slide Randle up. Otherwise, have him as a match-up nightmare at PF and be happy with it.

Good thoughtful post. If he were to develop that jumpshot, do you think he would become a match-up nightmare at SF as well?

I mean yes and no. He's a match-up nightmare no matter position he plays because he can beat you so many ways. The issue at SF becomes can he beat you up inside enough to win games? If he's inside then where are our PF and C at? Are they capable of hitting jumpshots if called upon? In some situations I think it'd be fine.

I think if we started a game with Randle/Aldridge/Okafor it'd work fine for a few minutes, but eventually the paint would just utterly collapse.

I feel Randle is alot more dangerous when he faces up, as opposed to having his back to the basket. I've seen alot of plays where he wildly misses the basket when he posts up and backs down the defender. When he faces up and drives, he scores at a high rate.

So I'm starting to feel like he should play like Lebron. He obviously doesn't have the play-making ability, so with more cutting/slashing, attacking the rim, fully utilizing his speed and strength.

^ Exactly. When he faces up that's when he puts the most pressure on the defense. He does this and the defender always takes a step back. Saw it in summer league and preseason all the time

So then, is he most effective when he starts his offense out in the perimeter?

He's most effective facing up at about 14-17 feet and taking his man off the dribble. He can still very effective post up though when the situation calls for it.

I saw something on FB saying their was a proposed deal: Lakers get Melo. Knicks get #2 and Randle. I got a good laugh off it. Had to have been created by a Knick fan (although I've never met one in person).

If Phil called and offered that, I think Mitch would ask him never to call again.

Would you do #2 and Randle for #4 and Melo ?

    Hell to the no.

Within 2-3 years Okafor or Towns/Randle will be better than Carmelo/Mudiay or whoever they get. Hell they might be better next season even.

I would not even do Randle for Melo straight up. Maybe if Kobe was 30 I would, but at this point we have to be future focused.

If Melo could stay healthy. If we are all in for a must win now. If Melo could show that he's a winner and not just an empty stats guy. If Melo cared about something more than personal accomplishments for whatever weak a** legacy he'll have -- I lost a lot of respect for him playing just enough to make the all star game then shutting it down this year.

If they want Lin, Hill, Swaggy P; I'd take Melo. But not for anything more than that. No future assets, not even any second round picks.

Randle is only 20, Clarkson is 22, and Towns/Okafor are both 19. That's some serious youth to build around and it bodes well for the Lakers long term. I would not trade for Melo who is 30 and is about a year or two away from the downside of his career.

Having watched a lot of Warrior games this year my take on their great success is the move of Draymond Green in the lineup for Lee. He has that "it" factor despite being an undersized 4. The more I've watched him the more I start comparing Randle to him. Big Beefy quick intense players that can play D against 3, 4, and even 5s. Green can shoot the ball, something Randle with have to prove he can do. My hope is that this comparison will be a topic of discussion all next year.

Don't forget Sir Charles, with less hops but more height, and even better in the open court and all around handles than Chuck was. Probably not the rebounder since Chuck was elite.
