Perhaps we should agree to disagree. I think it's pretty clearly a better team than what we have. And regarding Smith: he's 29, and I think he has probably two or three more prime years and four to six solid seasons left.

I'm with Rodgers. the lakers aren't making sense, but given their chosen path, a smith pursuit makes sense.

Well, we can't claim him off waivers because you have to pick up his entire contract to do that. We could offer more than the other teams interested after he clears waivers with our 4.5M Nash DPE but it really doesn't matter. He makes the same amount no matter what, it's just less of his salary that Detroit has to pay.

I mean I guess I might take him for one season with the Nash exception. I don't think he's that great anymore like I said, but if he played well here and upped his value maybe he's a trade piece then. I don't know, because I have no clue how much we'd be paying him and how many years we'd have him for if we picked him up. I guess I might rather have him as our starting 3 than Wes, but I certainly wouldn't want him to take minutes from Davis or Hill. Eh, I don't think we get him anyway, so it hardly matters, but not much else to talk about during these dark Laker times I guess.

I'm sure you hadn't read it yet, but the post directly below yours says otherwise. If someone else signs him, Detroit doesn't have to pay him AS much, but he's still making extra money from his new contract. The LA Times article says that he'd be able to make an extra $2.8 million from us compared to $1.4 million with the Rockets.

I don't think that's enough of a difference though, and I think he ends up going to Houston.

And while I do want Smith, it's because we really have nothing to lose. He could very well ruin our offense ... in which case it doesn't matter because we're already a bad team. So I like the idea of him going to Houston too. It could make them elite defensively ... or it might end up destroying their offense.

Why do you think he will break the rockets? I think his time in Detroit made him face the new reality his not a franchise player anymore. and besides who does Houston have at PF that is better?

no one better in a vacuum, but two guys who seem to fit what they do better in jones and motiejunas.

This is my thought, too. Motiejunas shoots better than Smith, takes fewer threes, and he rebounds just as well. He doesn't demand the ball nearly as much; he's a better fit for them than Smith.

I think their theory would be that motiejunas backs up both 4 and 5, and they don't have to play Dorsey or black ever again. when jones comes back (if?), there's a minutes-crunch, though.

adding smith is not a risk-less maneuver if you're a playoff team right now, imo.

Eh, I haven't heard much from JSmooth since he was in Atlanta. He doesn't have much of a killer instinct despite his talent.

Why bother going after him anyway, he'd just rot here like Boozer is.

Because it would make Sacre not play? :)

    Price/Lin
    Kobe/Ellington
    Johnson/Young
    Smith/Boozer
    Hill/Davis

    Look at that second unit!
