JC and Houston's for a pick in the teens? I wouldn't do that. He's middle of the 1st round talent, it seems. So that would be a step backwards.

Teens was a dumb word, as I was thinking 13 14 ish... which is late lotto, and what I should have said.

I'm with you. There's something to be said about a kid who doesn't just want to improve, but is working towards that end. Clarkson's growth has been pretty impressive so far this year. It'd take me a pretty strong offer to move him.

He looks like he could be career backup PG, you dont know what you get with a 10-15 pick.

I mean unless you know you're getting a career STARTER with that pick (which I think is possible), then I completely agree with you. Clarkson has the looks of a homegrown NBA talent. Those aren't as easy to find as people might think.

Clarkson in February is averaging 13-4-3, and he's reminding me a lot of a player I like: Francisco Garcia. JC's more of a combo guard than a pure wing, but he already is posting the same kind of per 36 minute stats that Garcia did, and he contributes in all facets: ball handling, shooting, defense, and he's a hustle player. Given where we picked up Clarkson, I see the Garcia comparison as a positive, and I think he can become an even better player.

    Interesting statistical comparison.

I'm not sure what his ceiling is, but it's certainly an NBA player. What excites me more than anything is the growth he's shown. Lately he's been working out with Nash and you can really see that development in his pick and roll game. I know we're all super down on Nash (and rightfully so), but I'm glad he's helping with the development of Clarkson.

To me he's a guy who can come into a game and create a really nice spark. High energy, good production, and a heady game. Really good pickup from his spot in the draft.

Seemed to me he did a lot better job staying in front of Deron Williams than Ronny Price did. When I wasn't dosing.

G dammit. What a mountain we have to climb. Really need need to lose all of these games. As someone said the 2 against Philadelphia should be a farce as they have zero shame and we are new at this.

Back to JC, agree you can really see improvement in his handles. Entirely possible I'm going overboard with the "homing" but maybe doesn't look quite as skinny as at the start of the season? If that's true he really is working his a** off on everything including the weight room.

Definitely a bright spot. He's growing so much so quickly and probably earned a spot starting as PG for the rest of the year.

Keeping the dribble alive and using his body to create space. That isn't something you learn and execute well in year one, unless you have some real potential and ability to grow.

Compare him with Darius Morris. Lighting quick in transition, but when you get in the halfcourt Morris was so lost and terrible. Never showed any of the potential/skills JC is showing right now.

Hopefully that bonehead Byron keeps him at 25-30 minutes nightly, so come year 2, JC is ready to take the next step.

He JC needs to do a better job of seeing floor. He shows flashes of making good decisions but then does something dumb like take a jumper before the rest of team crosses center court, or leaving his feet before he decides what he wants to do with the ball. Was looking at his game in detail last night trying to figure out why he does so many jump passes

For so many dumb passes, he had 0 TO's last night which should be an indicator if he's making the right decisions or not. Another thing; he's a rookie and probably came into the league a more natural 2 than anything and we're trying to convert into a PG. It takes time.

He's been efficient, make the right reds on PNR, seeing the floor better every game, and making more of an effort to get teammates involved...

Agree. Think you followed what I am saying. I like Clarkson and see him as a future NBA and perhaps Laker player. Just trying to figure out whether he is trying on purpose to do jump pass or needs to work on his game more to be cool and stay on the floor (feet on the ground) longer. I think he has a bit of the yips and when he slows down his game (you can see it in a few plays last night), he is awesome. But his nerves and seeing the floor are the issue.

I wouldn't give up on Clarkson right now. He's played well for us. I don't feel like starting over with a new guy. Just my opinion. I think Clarkson should get some time. Keep working with him and see how he pans out. I like what I've seen so far! I don't want to be the new Philly.

Gotcha. Just needs more repetition at the position. He''s developing nicely, though.

No way. We're not talking about giving up on him. Quite the contrary; he's doing great. He'll have 28 more games to hopefully start and continuing his upward trajectory that he's on right now.

He doesn't mind directing guys where to go or come pick for him. Confident.
