If he can get up to 36-38% from three this season, watch out!

Man, Kobe gets hit a lot with no call, he's been disrespected by refs like no other star out there at times, but let's be honest, he complains to the refs constantly. If you wanna call that being a crybaby, that's fair. Clarkson was a kid, was probably watching a game with the Lakers vs a team he liked, and said what he thought like we all do. Probably never thought he'd be a Laker and Kobe's teammate. I hope the media don't say a word about it, it doesn't deserve press, that's a non-story.

^They will... A precedent was sent by the Nance one. The perils of social media. It wasn't that bad. Heck, Magic Johnson was called that all the time when he was playing.

Yep, Kobe cries to the refs all the time. I've said it multiple times in past game day threads. Nothing that bad about what he said.

Clarkson has that sneer, that steely gunfighter stare while Russell has that calm, cool, smooth demeanor. Fire and ice. The positive I take out of this is that the former does not feel threatened but welcomes another promising backcourt partner that he feels will make his game easier. Russell is not about himself at all but it is about how he can put his teammates in positions of success. Chemistry and character counts. These two kids are all about making it work. Fresh... As in a twin guitar rock band, you can't have two lead players arguing over solos.

i think that once they start playing together their games will complement one another

i feel russell is more of a ball handler but can score at will and jc is more of a pure scorer so as time passes and they get to know one another im sure they will make it work

all they gotta do is look north and see what golden st did and that should be their motivation

    they could be our steph/klay

If he can add a consistent 3 ball to his game he could take the next step here. Will be interesting to see how the rotation plays out. He struggled with up and down minutes last year early and only came on when he was given 28+ minutes a game. Kobe, Russell, Williams and him. Who gets the majority of minutes at the 2 spot?

Curry and Thompson are the best shooting backcourt in the history of the NBA, but I don't necessarily think they are a blueprint for any other team, because 1) that duo is impossible to replicate, and 2) neither of them are good at drive-and-kick penetrations and setting up teammates. Curry is best at coming off screens, and Thompson is best at spotting up. Both of them are shooting guards. If their shot isn't falling the offense becomes stagnant.

I honestly think a Russell and Clarkson provides a more balanced backcourt. Russell has the court vision and passing. Clarkson has the slashing ability. Not saying more talented but more balanced.

I think Kobe would laugh his a** off if Jordan hit him up like that, the same way Nancy did like tada said above with the "Good morning Mr. Bryant", to apologize for the tweet years ago. This is nothing. Except maybe a few more elbows than normal coming his way during practice to see what he's made of.

So many injuries these past 3 years, but they had older injury prone players. The FO office seems determined to get young, healthy players for this roster, and the Vets Hibbert, Bass, and even Williams are not DL list guys. Kobe is the wildcard, I'm not even counting on him really, I hope he has a productive healthy year...but...So now the beauty of having a Back Court rotation of Russell, Clarkson, Williams, and Jabari Brown is that they will be there for games. Kobe goes down...no prob...

I think it's too early to say we fit better, but certainly they're very different players. Klay isn't in any way a combo guard. If anything he's a SG/SF. Curry is mostly a SG with some elite ball-handling and good vision. Iguodala is their 2nd initiator on offense.

Russell and Clarkson will be very different. Once Russell catches up with NBA speed and quicks, the two of them will be able to switch defensively AND initiate offensively. It'll take them a while to get there, but when they do they'll make a tremendous backcourt. One of them more inclined to cut and drive and the other more inclined to space and find the open man. If they get their chemistry going together, they can be dangerous.

Yeah how crazy is that? We're all looking with OMG eyes at the good fortune of GS to somehow have acquired both of those studs, the "Splash Bros" for their pick your poison back court, knowing we don't have that and the odds are astronomical against us for it happening. Because of how good and how young Curry and Thompson are. All of a sudden boom goes the dynamite with the FO's taking Russell instead of Okafor. I loved it but feared we would regret it for all the big, good centers that would abuse us. Meanwhile Mitch opens the door for Upshaw that hopefully could make it not haunt us so bad, and then blows the door wide open with honest 7'2" defensive beast Hibbert who is just 28 years old and seeking redemption. What a freaking tag team. Of course the lemming media, with their dismissive Hibbert doesn't work in the league any more crap. Max and Marcellus same S*** today, no recognition of what an elite BIG man still means in the game. Look who GS started all year until he forgot how to score in the championship series. Hibbert smokes Bogut on offense from the skills I have seen in his clips.

Yeah I really like the dynamic of having dual initiators. And one thing to note is that Russell is a great player off the ball as well.

this is where randle's ball handling skills come into play, and we get even more dangerous if for example there's a miss on one end, randle rebounds and dribbles the ball down the court and russ and clarkson run to their spots and we get an easy shot on our end.

    agreed!

stars aligned for us in a big way and our game and approach has changed now

we have not 1 but 2 stud guards that will grow together along with another lottery pick in julius randle and on top of that we traded for a true defensive center and we have a a now healthy kobe coming back for redemption in his twilight years and a capable bench that should hold down the fort while our starters rest

its gonna be a fun season thats for sure

I get giddy thinking about D'Angelo, Julius, and Jordan on a fastbreak.

Definitely. I know there's a lot of casual fans and short-sighted media personnel that are saying Hibbert and Kobe don't fit the way this young team wants to run, but an ideal fast break has three people on it. Kobe trails to the three point line like Pierce used to in Boston and Hibbert trails late down the middle on a dive either for an easy bucket or to set up our half court offense.

Having three different players that are capable of rebounding and starting a fast break is amazing. Having three different players that are capable of of rebounding, starting, and LEADING the fast break is just flat out dangerous.
