Is that dude behind him wearing a "Jordan Clarkson" design shirt?

Also he looks crazy beefy in that picture compared to his rookie season. His rookie season looked Westbrook-esque in his thin, wiry frame. There he looks like he's done almost nothing but deltoid workouts since the season ended...

Probably to help with getting beat up breaking down the defense in the key, when drafting Okafor could save him and our other guards from probably more than half of that abuse. [IMG]

I'm not sure what kind of shirt he's wearing; he does look great, though, physically. I know Byron and Mitch had told him to focus on getting a bit bigger since he might be guarding some 2-guards next season. He definitely has the ability to guard the 1 and 2 now that he's adding on some muscle...

Or Okafor could be used more in pick in roll with Clarkson; Okafor averaged (small sample size) had insane 1.55 points per possession on pick in rolls at Duke.

I expect a lot of that muscle to fall off once the season starts going just because he's going to be way too busy to lift weights at the consistent level he needs to so that he can maintain that size BUT it's great that he's so responsive.

Remember when Howard wouldn't even run a pick and roll because he wanted to be a post big man? Well now we've got kids who are changing their lifting patterns, adjusting their diets, and developing their games. What a lovely turnaround.

Re: the shirt- It's got that JG looking logo and on the bottom says "Clarkson"... I wonder if JC is getting some clothing endorsements.

Good point! At the end of the season, I believe he was at 189 lbs. I'm hoping he gains a few extra lbs by the time the season comes around.

Was he the one I read about who wanted to be at 195 or something? Someone said that but it might not have been him...

Anywho, as long as it's good weight and the right weight then that's fine. I thought his low body fat % was actually very helpful in his game. That's not to say extra muscle is bad for him at all, just saying that his low body fat % gave him a Westbrook-esque explosive ability. The more weight he puts on the harder things can be on his joints. He doesn't look like he's got a really great frame (like Towns or Randle for example) so building muscle could even backfire and cause injury.

But that's just one picture and the basic thought that more muscle means being able to take more punishment is more or less true. The more meat he's got to land on, the more his bones and joints are cushioned. It just means we might see a slightly different JC than we saw last year.

The strength and condition coach for the Lakers said over the course of time he expects Clarkson to put on another 10 lbs of muscle or something to that extent. Bare in mind, it wasn't in 1 offseason; this entailed a few seasons if I remember correctly.

No, not a great frame. I remember when Klay Thompson came into the league much leaner. He's been able to put on weight but has a much bigger frame than JC. He's listed at 207 lbs. I think and hope they find a balance with Clarkson. The benefit of him adding strength and guarding 2's is a quality problem to have and allows to do more things defensively. I just hope they find a way to do it without taking away some of the explosiveness he displayed during the season.

I liked the JC we last year. It looked like he had gotten bigger throughout the season and was able to attack seams and finish with explosion. On another note, maybe the added muscle helps or aids him to finish through contact even better than he does now? If I were him, finding the balance of adding muscle while keeping that quickness/explosiveness, tightening handle, and improving 3-point would be what I want him to focus on...

These pics of Clarkson confirm to me how hungry and motivated he is to be a star in the City of Angels. He is sharp enough to know the opportunity that awaits him. This team has it's leader this upcoming season but after that it will be up for grabs.I think we can all see where this is going, last year was an indicator of his upside, and this upcoming season he will realize a big portion of it.

He's got tremendous quick-twitch ability which is where the danger kind of comes from. When you try to explode using those muscles, the more weight you carry with you the more opposing forces being put on your joints. It's not a huge deal, especially at his age. Considering how quickly I expect that weight to fall back off again, it's not going to amount to a massive difference as long as he doesn't over exert himself early.

We shouldn't see a difference in the quickness in the pick and roll, but maybe a little difference in how he looks once he's going up with his shot/layup/dunk attempts.

Again, the key thing I take from this is his and Randle's and Black's and even Kelly's desire to get into the gym and work on their craft. It's awesome having young guys willing to do what they have to so that they can improve. Just awesome. And whichever kid we bring in here next will have that same drive.

^^^ Kobe as the "Player's Coach" in 2016 would be awesome... Working with the Laker's conditioning Staff & getting these young guns in the right mind frame to keep pushing themselves.
