though i've fully shifted to just "two lob threats who can credibly contest on the perimeter", i could get behind this. there might be a way to s&t kleber/milton/knecht for turner and retain hayes as the backup if lebron takes a small cut, i think. before people get mad, no way indy works with us without something serious coming back. no.
Nope, again, I said “when you have a team that breaks up his lobs, he becomes unplayable.” Anyway, you still haven’t even responded to any of my points- you just keep saying the same thing over and over again.
Turner and Jax would be one hell of a center combination. If he's asking for too much money would you do the Williams trade for him? I mean AR going to go away but the Pacers won't move him unless they gets first and Knecht
Lol that's just not true. The lob threat opens up shooters: Lakers forced the ball into him too much for example against the Bulls instead of finding the shooter. Keep ignoring what people have posted so that you can claim "facts"
I’m not ignoring anyone’s points. It’s quite the opposite. The fact remains: all he can do on offense is finish lobs and ocassionally take a few dribbles and dunk. No one has even retorted my facts about him not developing a post game, middy, three point shot, ect. Nope, silence on those.
i might argue that he should not work on any of those things ever, as he'll never get good enough at them for us to want to use it as an offensive option? what he has improved on is what i'd want: he's making better choices on the short roll, both passing and finishing (like when he crammed on turner last night). hayes is a limited player because he's simply not super coordinated. he should maximize his strengths--he's tall and athletic. become a good screen setter and be able to take a couple dribbles and pass or finish when teams sell out on the pick and roll. he does those things, and he becomes a tpmle+ level player, imo.
I stand corrected! He showed a jump hook tonight! I would like to see more of it. Maybe he used it more as a Pelly, but I honestly can’t remember him using it before as a Laker. Nice tip in as well near the end.
Past two were rough. Those are matchups against teams with size where you'd think his minutes would be up, not down. Teams are packing the paint and taking away the lob. Without that and with the bad defense, JJ's got him on a quick hook. He faired well in the last GS game, hopefully Thursday's game looks closer like that from him.
Looks like my comment of “he’s unplayable if the defense stops the lobs” really is true. JJ playing small speaks volumes.
I think JJ having him on a short leash has more to do with JJ's preference/urge of wanting to play 5 out with Rui back. It's quite obvious JJ wants to play like the C Bags and open up the paint. I don't blame him with our roster construction, but Luka's gravity takes a hit without a legitimate lob threat. I think our offense can become a bit stagnant and more predictable. Maybe JJ is still experimenting but yeah, Jaxson will be fine. He adds a dimension that no other player provides on our team. I think his confidence and performance hasn't returned to his pre-injury self, much like Lebron and Rui. He's still firmly part of our 8-man rotation in the playoffs. Speaking of "unplayable," Vando, Knecht and Goodwin are barely getting any playing time despite the small ball rotation. Judging off the last 2 games, I would label them as "unplayable" before Jaxson tbh.
Difference is none of those three you listed are starting. And yes, two of those are not part of JJ's 7.5 man playoff rotation. Makes sense for a rookie who can't defend, a big who also has zero offense and a freshly converted two way player. Difference also is that no one is suggesting this summer that those other 3 get 5x salary increase.
To be fair, that big with zero offense you mention is getting payed $11.5M next year So maybe we should start talking about trading a non-rotational piece in Vando for a better version of Hayes? Because if Vando is worth $11.5M, Hayes is certainly worth more than the $3.5M that everyone here thinks he's worth. And I never suggested that Jaxson should get paid 5x his current salary. I was merely pointing out what other centers were getting paid, and what kind of offers Jaxson might receive this summer.
i'll be surprised if hayes doesn't get at least one tpmle offer, which is why i'm open to offering him slightly over, just to maintain good will. i'd like to keep the years short, though and to avoid a PO anywhere.
Vando is elite defensively and can dramatically affect a game without scoring. Knecht definitely needs to improve his defensive awareness, but has already proven he can score in bunches. Goodwin has been very good defensively and can sometimes score. I’m not judging Hayes based off the last “two games,” but rather his entire season.
