Yeah, Rodman had some more advantages in his bag: - could wrestle in the post with a man who's workout routine was essentially the Rocky training in Russia montage in Rocky 4. Instead of dumbells, Malone is lifting tractors. But instead of chasing chickens in the alley, we know what Malone was chasing (per his comments to Vanessa). - was a tape junkie. If you impress MJ with your tape study, you know he's doing extra. - played a mental game that i don't think gets enough credit. Could rattle any cage. - had stamina and endurance that isn't there for Vando. Vando can only do Vando things for 18-20 minutes a game. Rodman did it for a 9 year run at for 35 mpg while hung over, still drunk, not sleeping, flying to Vegas, and still lapping teammates in running drills the next day. Build wise, maybe Pistons Rodman is a Vando comp but after that he packed on another 10-15 pounds. Maybe it was the wedding cake weight. So it wasn't just the springs holding him back. Speaking of Rodman, I'd like to see him vs Dray. In their defensive primes. That'd be a fun rivalry.
i take rodman on defense all day over draymond. not super close, imo. draymond is a bit underrated on offense because he's not a good shooter, but he's not a terrible shooter (career 33% on threes), and he's a very good passer and screen setter. and he has MUCH better hands than rodman or vando (who both had/have pretty meh-to-bad hands). but on defense...give me rodman over draymond. totally agree that aside from the strength, rodman could play 40 minutes at breakneck pace. vando can't. not sure i've seen someone since who can, tbh.
Dennis had a little more lift, plus he was a quick jumper, he could get lift off of 1 foot. Vando is a two foot ,set and leap type of guy. But no question, Dennis had super power level stamina, and a better slide too.
