what's the yikes? mine was that the scouts liked bufkin over all of them. jhs has looked better, i think. and it said rob was concerned about whitmore's medicals, not his play. he's currently out with a knee injury.
Yeah. I don't get Bufkin at all. Overruling the scouts, if true of course, isn't a good look to me either. Hit piece by Irwin though so who knows who is putting these stories out there. I dislike the finger-pointing that always seems to happen in the org after something doesn't seem to be panning out.
bufkin isn't anything special either. no different than drafting JHS JJ was the one they should've taken. local kid who played 4 years in college. perfect for a team with title aspirations. JHS would've made sense if the lakers were in a rebuild
The irony of passing on a player because of their medicals, right or wrong, to lose the guy who you drafted because of back surgery.
Yay the gift that keeps on giving, welcome to Ben Simmons hell without the actual benefit of seeing pre back problem Ben Simmons Go carnivore for healing you moron
wtf: this medical staff is amazing. how do you go from starring in the G league to microdiscectomy that quick?
Ahh geez …. it “used to be” a good saying in the record business, “and the hits just keep on coming”. Everything you always wanted to know about a lumbar microdiscectomy but were afraid to ask. https://www.google.com/search?q=lumbar+microdiscectomy&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari
oh my. that is not good. the irony of passing on whitmore for medical reasons and drafting a guy who had to have back surgery at 19 is going to be tough to live down. i may need to exit the thread.
To make it worse, we were trying to count him as a first round trade asset at the deadline. We'll do the same this summer, if we make any big move, and the limited value he had just got slashed in half. Back injuries are a scary thing in the NBA and either linger or pop back up all throughout the career just cause. He's a kid, he'll easily bounce back, but teams are going to use that against us at the negotiating table on top of Laker tax.
Man, all the more reason for people to pile on this kid. It’s not like our scouting department knew he would need back surgery this year and chose him anyway.
All I have to say regarding the Scouting Department over the last few years is: Scoreboard. Nobody hits on every pick. Nobody ever has, and nobody ever will.
yeah, he's not going anywhere as a value piece. though he may not have been anyway, tbh. but man, back injuries, as you said...they don't tend to just disappear. dwight was basically night and day after his. dwight right before his "minor" back surgery: this is true. i was just saying that the supposed major reason for passing on whitmore was the fear of chronic injury. well, we just got that on top of a rough rookie campaign. oh yeah, the carping about jhs has been silly, imo. the guys taken after him probably don't move the needle for us, short or long-term, and our scouts have run circles around most teams for years. if their formula is what led to taking jhs, i'm not abandoning the formula just based on this one instance.
Back surgery definitely sucks and isn't a good development. As always, I'm rooting for the kid but this is a pretty strong weapon for the naysayers. lol
