i've said a few times in this thread, but i really think we tried hard to trade this pick and couldn't get it done. i see a lot of people saying we should have drafted a "win-now" player in this spot because jaime jaquez is performing as a sub-average starting sf for miami, but teams in "win-now" mode don't draft for need. you can't count on rookies! teams in "win now" mode either a) don't draft at all or b) draft for the future (after "win now" ends).
we've been terrible at developing young rookies regardless of who was coaching.....reaves is only exception but he was an older rookie like Jaime
Ummm .... maybe because our two "actual" PGs DLO and Gabe were out, and Gabe has been out? For .... like emergencies. No matter what anyone else may comment about this kid's future with their "opinion".
honestly, if he's going to play like that and get pulled after 5 rough minutes, both he and the team would be better off with him getting a lot more reps in the g league.
I didn't like the pick immediately after watching him but Ham sometimes just does stuff that makes it hard to defend him and this was one of them. The dude is a raw player who can't shoot but he's a PG and he at least can dribble the ball and get your team into an action. Instead Ham sticks him in the corner like he's Duncan Robinson and Duncan Robinson handled the ball more for the Heat than the dude whose only real skill IMO is his ball handling. So f***ing stupid. I think Ham is getting screwed with the amount of injuries and a deep roster but flawed roster whose players are not plug and play types. They need to be used in lineups and schemes that highlight their strengths and hide their weaknesses. But as a coach don't do stuff that automatically is going to bomb (Gabe in a 3 guard lineup, Vando and Cam together wtf??). Same thing here, I think JHS sucks but at least put him and by definition the team in a position to succeed.
I get that in theory. BUT Max was point guard when they were on the floor together in the second, when Max telegraphed two turnovers in consecutive plays (or at least seemed like back to back plays). Max is not a PG. If you're going to have JHS on the adult roster and he shouldn't be, then for the love of all things holy DO NOT PLAY HIM AS A SG! Like I said earlier, if we're in a pinch with injuries, bring up Pip or Hodge, they're more prepared for the NBA. Hell, we're entering 10 day territory soon, that route is a better option. We're killing his confidence. He's not getting reps. He's learning nothing. He needs 30 minutes a game with South Bay.
JHS wasn’t available for that assignment like 1.5 of those couple months with the bone bruise and back spasm issue and our being down 2PGs, until it was just evident when he finally did get some non garbage burn that he’s really not ready to contribute shooting 3s from the corner where Ham stuck him.
Pretty hard to go hard developing your skills when you’re injured. I recall when he got close to coming back from the bruise they had him out there in traffic drills with 3 staff guys working on his handles. His handles are good. The shots aren’t dropping. Yet. Doesn’t mean they won’t ever. He can GET them. I doubt that Handy is considered a shooting coach? Ingram, a number 2 pick shot poorly his rookie year with all kinds of minutes and patience.
I don't know LT. He looks further away than Brandon to me. Ingram was one of my favorite rooks though, I liked him a lot more than D'Angelo right away. It make take a couple of years.
