Just like it took Max at least one year of development, it’s going to take JHS that amount as well. A year or two of proper development does wonders for many of these guys who are taken as projects.
You know, when we got Westbrook, I gave it a chance. I figured that was a result of Jeannie wanting to do what Lebron and AD felt we should do. I thought Rob let himself get hoodwinked and went along with it. It's obvious he was given the power to fix it and it looks like he did, with flying colors. This is why you don't jump on people and fire them without giving them a chance. None of US really know how all this came down and how decisions were made. One thing we all know is that some bad decisions were made and they made a fair amount of really good decisions since, to get us back on track. Like I say, I am currently giving Pelinka and Jeannie the chance to get it right. I am more than happy that they are in charge. They are doing a great job and have made a number of changes that nobody could have predicted. I love this team and want them to succeed, not gonna jump on their arse every time it is possible to give them hell. Some people love that mentality, I don't. I am here for the fun part but recognize that there are going to be bad times along with the good times. What team wins all the time without down times? Name one!
i think the drunk magic trades, the botched PG trade attempt, and the russ trade were hiccups. MAJOR hiccups. but i actually have a lot of confidence that rob knows what he's doing. anyway, this is about JHS and i guess extending the same grace to the scouts (who have a much better, more consistent track record, tbh).
Oh darn …. good post but I screwed up what you are replying to. When I was teasing saying you needed to update your settings about willing to give Jeanie and Rob a chance I meant (considering what has transpired) “post this past season’s deadline”. And of course the further good moves during the summer. Ooops.
I agree with all those points. I think Kobe got us Rob, just in time. Sadly. I think Magic was way too emotional and was unable to make logical decisions, always hitting for a home run. Worked great as a player, not so great as a FO type. I forgive him though because he was a generational player who had purple and gold blood in his veins. I think Rob is a great FO guy! I think he has been excellent in navigating the salary cap and the finding the best players possible. Our new guys are going to need more time to get used to our system and all the new players. We are going to be all right.
Not a fan of his game so far but whatever, he's a rookie. He'll play sporadically or go to the g-league.
What’s not to like? He doesn’t look too smart, can’t shoot and can’t jump. At least two traits that Whitmore has.
I for one agree with the early training camp reports. Looking like the preseason MVP out there. Shots aren’t necessarily falling, but he has the size and skillset to develop, plays with a lot of poise out there. (Can JHS + Reddish get us anything in a trade after 12/15?)
I feel like I’m the dummy or should apologize for liking what I see from him. The all around flashes of what his game’s capable already of doing. Who doesn’t like his crisp passing with the various types including like Reaves velocity from the left.Within another month he’ll look better and probably the month after that. (It’s only be full fledged practice and practice games in the big leagues for him for 7 days) and people are killing him as if he’s doing this mid season.
Naw I’m being sarcastic because he’s obviously been underwhelming, so all the training camp hype seems a bit disingenuous. But I still do legitimately have faith in him. He’s in the perfect situation where we really do NOT need him to be a rotation player yet. I’m honestly fine with him taking DNP-CD’s all year and just slowly building his game and doing his homework observing the vets, then we’ll evaluate him next year when we might have actual spots in the rotation to fill. If his potential excites another team enough such that we can use him as trade bait to make a substantial improvement to the rotation, sure let’s go for it. But that’s not likely, so let’s be patient with the kid.
2 examples does not a trend make there are exceptions to every rule, and the 2nd example isn't the name his Mother gave him. And it was from the 80's. I feel like you made my point actually. here I am thinking of the rest of the guys like.... Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje Keita Bates-Diop Nickeil Alexander-Walker DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell Zaid Abdul-Aziz
I think he will head to the G league to work on his game. We are in a position to bring him along slowly.
