I think it really is the time (it's not the reason here, but still) to shorten the season to 70 games or so.
What the f***. This pisses me off, why so many injuries? Ridiculous. Zen - Generally I see reasons to shorten the season, but players in the 70's/80's/90's played 82 games with way more physicality. They also had less advanced treatment and medical care. I think it's the style of game and the NBA is much quicker nowadays. ACL injuries usually result on the ground. All the cutting and jerky motions make these kinds of injuries and I think the pace of the games is exacerbating them.
Saw this comment on Reddit: Players who have missed or will miss > 50% games so far this season by draft order 2: Jabari Parker - ACL 3: Joel Embiid - foot 4: Aaron Gordon - foot 6: Marcus Smart - ankle 7: Julius Randle - tibia 9: Noah Vonleh - hernia 11: Doug McDermott - knee
Really ridiculous. I really hate seeing players injured. In addition to that, I think players spend less time in college and jump into the NBA while their bodies are still developing. I remember reading that players straight out of high school broke down at an earlier age than players out of college.
What the hell is going on with injuries these days? This has reached ridiculous levels. I don't remember injuries this severe to so many players growing up watching the NBA, and now when another guy goes down for the season I'm not even surprised a little. Wiggins should be worried.
ACL tear is actually worse than Randle tibia break. That Break is fully heal while the ACL.... well just look at the Rose situation
lots of guys have recovered from torn acls (rondo looks great right now, for example); it's not the death sentence it was in the 80s and early 90s. I think he'll be back to full strength by the end of next year. but yes, it's a bummer. I guess the lakers' misery is getting company.
It's not a death sentence, but for a young guy to tear an ACL is rough. There's a propensity to over-train, re-injure, and it's an injury that can continue to haunt him for the rest of his career. Luckily he seems like a smart kid and his game wasn't necessarily based on athleticism anyway, but still a really sad day to see another young player go down. Randle by the way will heal ten times easier and more durably than Parker. Bones heal relatively quickly. ACLs sometimes never come back the same.
