Cavs Have Offered J.R. Smith Less Than His Player Option AUG 17, 2015 5:33 PM J.R. Smith has reportedly been offered less by the Cleveland Cavaliers than the $6.4 million player option for the 15-16 season he declined to become a free agent this offseason. With free agency well into its second month, the Philadelphia 76ers and Portland Trail Blazers are the only other teams that can offer Smith a raise. Smith continues to wait for the Cavaliers to improve their offer, but his best bet may be a one-year deal. Smart guy is smart.
I think the Cavs are going to f*** themselves over with the way they're conducting themselves with the contracts. They have so much tied up in the front court, there's the TT situation which will end in him walking next year, and Mozgov is going to want his pay day too. They can find a JR replacement. Gunners are a dime a dozen. And honestly until he caught fire in the playoffs, he didn't give them much. But the manner in which they're patching their team will come back to bite them sooner than later and will limit their contention window.
crazy luxury tax territory already, so the guys left are going to get hardball offers. The bottom line is one guy is restricted, and they are under no obligation to break the bank for him for an absurd contract. He's not worth the max. JR isn't worth the option he had, so he's a t*** for opting out. Let the market set the rate and then bring him back. Not their fault he got bad advice.
I don't think they care, as long as they win a championship this year. And if they are relatively healthy, they will. They gave the best of the West hell and they didn't have Irving or Love, and they've gotten better in other areas. Win a title this year, the drought is over, LeBron is a hero, what happens after that the fans might be too blissed out to care. As for JR Smith, AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
^Ah...that stupid chicken dance. Smith could be a valuable scorer off the bench for someone. He should just play out the string career wise and go for the best offer he can get.
