Hey all, sorry I had to go to the gym and get a sweat on. Quick thought: I liked Bonga a year ago as a draft and stash. He's 6'9" and plays a lot of PG for his German team. He's an interesting athlete and body type with a ton of length, but not the quickest guy. I dont expect him to come over right away, but a decent stash. I'm not sure why we traded for him, but it's unlikely a high 2nd would be worth much in next year's weak draft.
Young Diaw was actually a stud. I'm not sure there's a great comp. Give me an hour and I'll have some better info for you guys.
Limited footage of the kid, but he looks creative in terms of getting his shot off from about 10 feet and in. Skinny but his build looks like he could fill out nicely.
Rob mentioned we only made two picks during the draft and there was no mention of a trade during the draft like other trades. Any clue?
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Isaac-Bonga-84711/ Legit 6'9 with 7 foot wingspan. Point forward. Won't be 19 till November 9th... Talk about low risk, solid/high reward.
OMG. I'm in love with this dude. Intangibles, athleticism, huge ceiling. Good feel for the game, good passer, good touch around the rim. Solid good twitch for being so long. He's got some Ingram but being more of a natural PG. I guessed earlier a young/lean diaw, see some of that too. Won't be 19 until November!
Ich did see him play the last couple of years here in the german league and i do like him. Still pretty raw but has a ton of potential and pretty sick body measurements. Also his coach is trying to let him play the point pretty offen. So as you guys said before, low risk, possibly high reward.
So it's been a while since I watched the kid play and many of these clips seem to be from this last season. Things he's improved since I last saw: - Even the semblance of a jumper - A more natural feel for the game - In better shape - Floater game looks interesting Things that need to improve to come to the NBA: - Jumper needs vast improvement - Still not quite there in terms of seeing plays develop, can be faster - For his size and length, he relies too much on craftiness. Go dunk the ball - Foot speed isn't where you'd like it for a guard in the NBA He's definitely a high quality draft and stash, but I still feel like the Lakers trading for that pick was weird. It feels like they wanted to trade up in the draft and either couldn't or didn't pull the trigger when their target went off the board too quickly.
Form on shot didn't seem bad, liked that he has ability to knock some down from 3 point range as well. Liked his drive ability as well, looks like knows and recognizes when he should slash or motion. Lol. That would be horrible if he's actually older. You oughta think Germans would have crucified him if they found out and I'm sure they did their hw.
I don’t remember our scouting department being this solid. During the Mitch, Jim years, I was very wary about it and would often compare our scouting or lack thereof with the Spurs. We have definitely gotten over that hump recently and I’m looking forward to the future.
