It's a nearly impossible puzzle to solve. The coach has to have a strong enough personality to command LeBron's respect. But LeBron has to also like him. Luke did not fit either criteria so he was always dead man walking. Apparently Mark Jackson would accomplish both. Who else? Lue fits the second but not the first. JVG would fit the first but not the second. You guys are dreaming with the women coach suggestions.

that would be great to put Lebron in that situation, having to support the first FEMALE NBA head coach ever or be labeled a douche, misogynist, etc. So great

I agree with the newb, Lue is the safest choice, as the only proven way to succeed with Lebron is to run the Lebron system.

but wut if he's too old to run da Lebron system?

I'm now firmly in da camp of hiring da first female NBA coach ever. Who should it be?

I wouldn't make a change to be honest. I think Luke was given a very flawed roster that had unrealistic expectations. Is he a good coach? I don't know but the guys (or gals) that would be available are not going to move the needle with this team as currently constructed.

Plus, if the Lakers stick with Luke it would send a message to LeBron that he cannot play GM and get his coach fired. However, I would try to find better assistants.

I think we need a change. Luke was a good hire I thought for a very young rebuilding team who were emulating some of the fast paced style of play that GS excelled at. The proof was the fact that we kept beating GS at their own game over the last few years with Luke as coach. That was fun and cool.

But the minute Lebron got here the expectations rose immediately and rightfully so. Lebron is hitting his twilight years with this contract and we have to take advantage of his time here. We can't afford to be patient. Lebron doesn't have that luxury.

On top of that Luke just has not shown that he is the guy who can get it done. Regardless of injuries and whatever anyone thinks of the roster, we should NOT be below .500. It's not acceptable. We are going to miss the playoffs and realistically we'll end up under .500 on the season. That's grounds for firing.

Bottom line, Luke's not the right coach for Lebron and we don't have the time to keep going with that experiment. On top of it of course Luke was a Jim/Mitch hire and the current FO hasn't been convinced by him. They'll put their own guy in.

I don't mind the names mentioned - Mark Jackson, the Van Gundy's, Lue. I just DON'T want Jason Kidd.

How about an up and coming coach with high level Pedigree?
    International experience
    Played in the NBA
    Played for the Lakers
Is good at developing young talent
His team plays an attractive free flowing style
    He knows the Lakers youth
He was around NBA star players growing up

I believe that Luke would have had better results with a much better coaching staff. I also believe that he would have been good for a fully rebuilding team, we’re trying to do two things at once here. Also if he had more holdovers each year, instead of going full on Suicide Squad this year.

We do need a change though and unfortunately that means Luke will be the scapegoat.

In the recent LFR podcast, they brought up an interesting point. You have Luke, the guy that came from the GSW system trying, this season, to be anti-GSW. That just wasn’t going to end up well.

Next coach will be approved by LeBron, for sure. That's a good thing. But that's different from a "LeBron coach."

    1. Don't want Kidd. The Bucks are doing so much better under Budenholzer, why would we take him? You could argue for player development, but we're clearly in win-now mode with LeBron.

    2. Lue isn't THAT bad of a coach. The Cavs actually did run offensive sets under him contrary to popular belief. But Lue is a "LeBron coach" and would basically be his yes man. That's not what we want. He also reportedly suffered from a lot of anxiety in Cleveland. And while there's nothing wrong with that, imagine the pressure of LA every night. I think it might not be good for his health, and the team needs a strong leader.

    3. Mark Jackson could be okay, but we would need a strong offensive assistant. You saw how much better GSW got once they unlocked their offense a bit. I'm also concerned about the religious preaching.

    4. If we're getting a Van Gundy, I'd rather get Stan.

I didn't like the O I saw in Det with Stan there, the Orl ver. is just like every other team now so we'd need shooting and a post presence.

Jay Wright from Villanova. This is the guy I've wanted since they stupidly hired Walton.

What I liked is that he showed the ability to switch the offense depending on his roster. 4 out 1 in actually isn't what a lot of teams are running the way Orlando did, because that was designed to post up Dwight and kick it to shooters when the double game. 4 out spacing is still common though. MIL does it all the time.

Detroit was a dumpster fire. I don't think SVG's coaching was the root issue there. I'm not high on him as a coach, but I'd rather him than JVG, which is my point.

JVG is still doing coaching on the side albeit not NBA caliber but still... He's also dealt with outsized personalities in New York. Sprewell, Houston, Ewing, Oakley, Larry Johnson, Anthony Mason...to name a few. Cats that would make James look like a wallflower.

The only reservation I have is he is not known to be an offensive minded coach BUT he will have the squad play hard.
