one key will be getting AD to buy in on setting screens. i'm AD's biggest fan around here, but he's never really committed to being an elite screener, and that could open up his game, in addition to the obvious benefit for teammates. domantas sabonis has turned himself into a perennial allstar largely on the back of his screening, imo.
I think it's going to be either or for the sake of his body. Either battling centers in the paint OR being hit on every offensive play with people running into you as the screener. For the regular season I don't think we can get both from him. If that's what JJ wants then it really does signify the need for a 24-28 minute a night center. If that's the route, i'm really curious what the plan is with Bron for those overlapping minutes.
Interesting, I thought Woj said Rob offered him the job Thursday morning What an insecure, petty little snake
With how the Hurley thing went. Color me shocked. Irwin (who went ahead with the announcement when he heard JJ was in the building Tuesday working), Buha, Shams and Stein all have said this week that JJ either has been acting as HC since the start of the week or some have specifically said Tuesday. Woj specifically mentioning the day/time in the announcement was him trying to stay the course in his trail of BS regarding this process.
Way to go coach J ! It was really after I interviewed for the Toronto job last year that I knew that I wanted to be a head coach in the NBA," Redick said. "And so the last year, I spent a lot of time talking to coaches, talking with GMs, picking their brains. ... I just felt like this is what I'm supposed to be doing." His podcast with James, which debuted in late March, will be shuttered. For the time being, and hopefully it's a very, very long time, I am excommunicated from the content space," Redick said. "So there will be no podcast. ... I'm done with podcasting for now."
Of all the podcasters I am regularly listening to, Cranjis has been one of those more sceptical as regards this hire. He's also one of the ones I trust the most and lean on in my own perceprion of the team. These comments sound pretty optimistic.
Well..everyone has a great plan until it gets countered, and then your counter, gets countered. However it's June, pre draft and pre free agency. I'm claiming Lakers in 6! We'll see in November. Go Lakers!
F jj reddick he is no basketball genius . Everyone wants to be politically correct with this a** clown . He is a legend in his own arrogant mind . i am LITERALLY rooting for jj to Fail and fail miserably. Who the F does he think he is to get hired as a head coach of the biggest franchise in sports without any experience. I hope we go 0-82 . Kobe is right he is a mofo .
This arrogant fool sits there lying in our faces with that smug look on his face talking about “ he is here to win championships . How the he’ll are you going to win a championship with this team ? Why do you say stupid arrogant sht just to jerk your own ego. Just be humble and say thanks to drugged up FO I get to opportunity to be a HC.
I really like him. Biggest takeaways of the press conference, ESPN LA (great questions by the guy standing) and Spectrum: - he's an a******. He is really arrogant. Greats usually have those traits. And it fits perfectly to coach the Lakers because the job isn't bigger than him, in his opinion. I felt that with Ham and Vogel. It impacts decision making and how you carry yourself, because you're mostly trying to keep the job secured instead of hunting. JJ will hunt and that's a great thing - his demeanor and communication is top notch. He's very direct (starting by saying he never coached in the NBA, saying Hurley is a 2 time national champion and he's a 3rd grade champion, his cursing to the haters question), he loves the heat. He's very secured, confident and that carries on how he approaches day to day and holds people, and himself, accountable. You can only hold others accountable if you openly hold yourself too, he has that - we will be a heavy shooting team. He wants Rui shooting more 3s, LeBron taking more 3s. Good thing he didn't mention AD taking more 3s. He also mentioned you can't have winning basketball with one dimensional players, which was nice - both talked a lot about player development as a key way to navigate the cap restrictions and I think we'll be more and more pushing for that, I like it (re-sign Handy!). Rob also mentioned that with the 2 aprons, it's more hard to make a trade work - team will be made around AD. We can be looking at a MVP style season from him. Hope he stays healthy - we were careful not to talk about any player outside AD (Rob mentioned LeBron has a PO to pick up and they didn't talked about him at length). JJ only mentioned Reaves and Rui was a direct question from a Japanese reporter. I think we'll be active on the market and no player apart from our 2 stars will be safe I think JJ's ceiling is to be a great HC. He has a lot of traits that are common among the best on their work. Let's see how it goes, I'm excited!!
