couple of notes JJ talked to AD throughout process and AD ws very involved in coaching search JJ did not talk to LeBron at all during the process as he did not want to be involved but they did talk right after he got hired JJ big on culture JJ said getting Lakers job was the best thing he's done in his life and he wanted to coach the Lakers only JJ said he's not going to be perfect JJ said he does think the expectations of the Lakers being a championship team are reasonable JJ is DONE with podcasting (this is a real shame)
More notes JJ mentioned he's talked with Rui and reaves this week and he's excited about coachign them JJ mentioned specifcally about Rui - He wants Rui shooting more 3’s - love that. Also mentioned offensive rebounding too for Rui - which is interesting. I’ve always thought he could be more like an Aaron Gordon - Also mentioned Rui being an excellent cutter and getting mismatches. I LOVED This part. JJ talked about collaboration - and he saidhe's going to collaborate with analytics A LOT and use MATH. I LOVE THIS.
JJ Redick: "LeBron and I did not talk about the Lakers job until Thursday afternoon, but 30 minutes after I was offered the job ... That was very intentional" LOL
JJ Redick: "The pursuit of greatness can't be miserable." He says it's his responsibility to create an environment with the Lakers organization where everyone enjoys coming to work and competing. In particular, the specialist wants forward LeBron James increase the 3 points shots. In the 2023/24 season, James showed the best shooting percentage of three-point sales in his career – 41. So he wants LeBron become a new Curry . He already discussed with the Anthony Davis his desire to actively use it in the movement of the ball as in a role reflecting the trends of modern big men It's a new dynasty in a making
Thought he had a great intro presser. Might have to put a few dollars in the swear job, but he sounded like someone who talks about basketball in front of a mic for a living. That's one area he will win every night is in front of the mic. Hopefully he trains up everyone in the front office. They could use the help. He and Rob both emphasized development and how they spoke about the roster, I think we're making at least two selections this week in the draft (whether we move up, down, around is another story). I thought it's interesting how Rui's been identified this summer as a key to the team. He was included in the list of core guys during the Hurley/culture reports and with how they spoke about him today. JJ wants to use AD as a hub, think that's where we get him more into it being his team, more reading and facilitating, more off the ball stuff from Bron. JJ and the Lakers want more 3s from Bron. Sorry guys. JJ said it in the interview and Bron mentioned it in episode 4 or 5 of the pod that they wanted him taking even more 3s than he was taking. JJ emphasized the significance of two way players. So it'll be fascinating to see if that is implemented into draft and FA consideration
It was not but saw that it might be because of his player option so they're not allowed to talk about him? If that's the case, fine. But yeah I was hoping to hear somethign about him and the fact that we didn't was a bit disappointing and the thought of losing him for nothing and not being able to replace his production via free agency is not going to sit well with me... I hope and pray we have a sign & trade lined up for him somewhere if he's not going to stay with us
I do have to wonder if he’s thinks we actually believe he didn’t discuss the Laker head coach job early or he’s just thinks he has to say that to cover for Bron. If he thinks we BELIEVE it, he’s not as smart as I thought he is.
JJ’s ability to communicate to the public is elite as we should all know by now, but I like that every word was measured and I believe pretty thoughtful. Even cursing during the presser was a very intentional and measured act. If he can translate that to heart felt and honest conversations with the players and team as a whole it might be a great asset. I hope he also walks the walk and doesn’t just talk the talk like Ham did.
